Paulywood Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Apparently my first post disappeared so here it is again:After a few last minute cancellations my dad ended being the only passenger I had for our trip yesterday morning. We weaved our way through the boats anchored in the channel and at each end and headed out to 75' straight out. Took our first hit on a rigger 45' down with a Double Glow Ace High plug while setting lines. Steelie in the box. Short while later a half core w/ a Yeck Fireball w/ earrings went, another steelie in the box. 2 hours later we took a rip on a wire diver on 3 150' out w/ a blue slick/crush glow Pro-Troll and Mirage Sigg's fly but it came unhooked. By this time we had worked southwest out to 175'. Kept going out to 225' with no action so turned in and went back to 100' with nothing going. Catfishhoge called on the radio and said they were doing good up by Duck Lake. 10 miles from where we were. It was 11 am already but we decided to pull and head up there. Started setting lines in 150' just north of the last set of nets. Surface temp was 58 degrees compared to 65 degrees down south. As I was setting the 6th line an SWR w/ a chrome/redheaded J-plug 55' down went off. Nice 9 lb steelie in the box. We started circling the nets heading east and we found water as cold as 52 degrees with a defined scum line. Trolled along that and the half core w/ the Yeck went again. Another steelie in the box. Short time later a 3 color w/ a Mag Jerry Lee went. Another steelie in the box. It was getting late so we started pulling lines and putting everything away. Pulled all of the fish out for a quick pic and was hosing down the deck when the last rod in the water, half core w/ Yeck, started peeling line. Grabbed it and saw a nice steelie cartwheeling behind the boat. After about 10 jumps the line went limp. No steelhead limit for us. Ended up 5/7, all steel. Biggest was 9 lbs, smallest was 4 1/2. All of them put on a show, coming up out of the water multiple times. Thanks Rick for the tip on coming north, it was well worth the gas.
Just Hook'n Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Nick work with a small crew Nick. MAN they are scattered and everyone is looking. Makes it fun trying to get through all the traffic.
