GLF Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 ALBANY - A Great Lakes bill that would affect the future of hazardous waste dumping in New York State - particularly at the Chemical Waste Management landfill in Niagara County - passed the Assembly Thursday and awaits a vote by the State Senate today. State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-Newfane, a leader of the Senate majority, was considered by some to be the key to moving the bill forward. More than a dozen environmental groups, residents of Porter and Lewiston and local politicians have lined up to support the bill, which would require any hazardous waste operator, including CWM, to prove that there is zero discharge into the Great Lakes. Proponents rallied earlier this week to ask for support from the community. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060623/1021453.asp
