Aquatic invasive species inflict significant economic and ecological impacts on the state of Wisconsin, causing economic and cultural losses for industries, communities and ecosystems. More than 160 aquatic invasive species have been introduced to the Great Lakes since the 1800s, most of them by transportation in ships' ballast water.
