Paulywood Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 We fished Ludington for the first time. It's a lot different than down south, that's for sure. We headed north out of the harbor sunday night and found a small temp break about 3 miles north in 50'. Decided to stop and work that area but no luck. Worked our way north and picked up our first fish on a wire diver and flasher/fly. Things were kind of slow as we worked our way north of the point. Ended up 2/4 as the sun went down to go up 3/5. Ace High plugs in Double Glow went twice on full cores. Silver Streak Green Sexy Shad went on a rigger. 2 fish around 15 lbs, one around 10. On our way in we marked a lot of fish coming off the bottom in 180' off the Bath House and decided to start there in the morning. Ran up there in the 3' waves and setup in 80' heading NW. It sure does get deep fast in that area. Worked almost to the Stick taking 1 fish on a wire diver blue glow/slick Pro-Troll Mirage Sigg's fly. Turned south into the waves and headed toward the harbor as we had nothing going. Found a batch of cold water (61 degrees) south of the Bath House and took a fish in it. Water warmed up so we turned around and headed back into the cold water. Took another fish then turned around back into the cold water. Kept making the loop until the cold water disappeared around 11 am. We decided to call it a day. Ended up 4/7. One small king around 5 lbs and the rest between 10-15 lbs. Double Glow Ace High's went again, green double crush/glow SD w/ a Moonshine fly took a big king on a wire diver. Went 1/2 on a 3" chrome redhead J-Plug on an SWR, the one we lost was a nice fish that cut off the plug behind the boat. Lost another nice fish on a Diehard Stinger on a high diver that tore out 300+' and I fought it back to 75' before it came off on the surface. All in all it was a great first trip to Ludington. We stayed at Starport Marina and Duke was a great host. Helped us get set up and even tied the boat up for us. Can't recommend them enough. We will definitely be back.
Adam Bomb Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Nice job Nick, sounds like you had about the same luck as us in that area.

Just Hook'n Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Great job Nick. Had to be nice seeing the water get that deep that fast.
Jose Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I know this may be a dumb question and I am fully aware there are no stupid questions, only stupid people but when people fish out of Ludington and they refer to 'the stick' what is it?!
MoJoRisin' Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Big Sable Lighthouse on the point north of Lud.
JWheeler Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 BINGO! Then there is the bath house, I believe it is south of the point. The projects are south of the harbor between ludville and Pentwater.
