We headed out to SB Saturday afternoon and got off to a bad start before even getting the boat wet. When I stopped to put gas in the truck I noticed that one of our downrigger cables had snapped sometime during the drive. So we had to make an unexpected stop to pick up a new rigger release. We ended up setting lines at at 6:45 in 100 FOW. Not long after the lines were set we took our first fish in 110 FOW. The rest of the night we stayed in the 100 to 110 range where we had pretty consistent action and some good size fish. We ended up 6 for 7 pulling lines at 10:30. The last fish we had on was the fish we missed and it ended up being a heart breaker. It hit our 300 copper and took off. We ended up having to turn the boat towards the fish and tighten the drag in fear of getting spooled. We were able to get him turned and make up some ground for awile. Shortly after we got back into the copper he made another run and came close to spooling us again. After about 30 min or so we had him pretty close to the boat and he took a run under the boat and found one of the downrigger cables and that was the end of it.

Here's what worked for us:

Mag wire dipsey set at 1.5, 140 LOC, 11" hotspot flasher, Rapture Wild Firn, (12# king)

Full core, NBK spoon (20.5# king)

300 copper, mag Turkish Pepper (2# king, miss)

Rigger 80 dn, 11" Pro-Troll, green homemade fly, (19.7#king)

Braid dipsey, 250 LOC, Liberty spoon, (18# king)

SWR 90dn, Flounder Pounder, (7# king)

After a short nap we headed out again Sunday morning. We set lines at 5:00 in 90 FOW and ran the same program as the night before. We took a few hits early and then struggled the rest of the morning. By 8:45 we had enough of getting beat up by the waves and headed in. We ended up working as far out at 180 FOW and went 2 for 3.

Heres what worked for us:

Mag wire dipsey, 140 LOC, 11" hot spot with Rapture Wild fern (miss)

SWR 80 dn, Flounder Pounder, (8# king, shaker)
