Just Hook'n Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 OK, I call it a night trip but the water and sun was so nice that we started at 2:30. It was gorgeous on the lake so we didn't mind being out there. Figured the bite would be slow in the afternoon and it sure was. I don't think we had our first one on for 3 hours. 4lbs steelhead on lemon ice on three color lead in about 150fow just south of muskegon. Worked north and found our best water was 180-210 fow. Surface was 71.5 down 65 was 48, down 10 more was 44. Marked a lot of fish up in 25 (out of temp) but did mark most of our fish in 57-75, some a little deeper once in a while. Caught 5 more kings, lost 2 shakers coming in (pulling lines at the end of the night). Also lost a few more at some point, one came undone early and one I can't remember. Anyway, they were not big fish. 11" echip yellow with white fly on rigger 65 down. 11" echip white with green fly on rigger 65 down. dipsey 150 back on one with PINK 8" echip with black dots and white fly. That's right boys, the "kitchen sink" worked. dipsey 175 back on one with 8" blue echip with white ladder back with blue fly. I think we also had one on with blue bubble spiny with blue fly on full core. You get the picture, flashers and flies. Dipseys or riggers or core, didn't matter.
