MUSKIE MAGIC: Muskellunge fishing getting back to normal

Cross your fingers when you say it, but muskellunge fishing on the continent's best muskellunge lake may be getting back to normal after a weird spring.

"Our main problem now is that the water is still very cold. It's at least 6 degrees below what's normal for this time of year," said Brad Horton, president of the Michigan Ontario Muskie Club, which held its annual benefit tournament for the Special Olympics on Tuesday.

"We had 67 boats, and 65 of them caught fish. That was good, because I had been worried it might be a lot less than that. But our top number for one boat was 11 (boated) for 14 (hooked). In most tournaments, that's just an average number. We should have had several boats in the 15-for-20 range."
