Sandhill Cranes - Pics

We were over at some friends house tonight, and I looked out the window and saw a couple of sandhill cranes and two babies. So....I grabbed my iphone and headed out to see if I could get close enough to get a couple of pictures.

Once they saw me coming, the babies dashed into the tall weeds. After a few minutes of looking around, and about to give up, I spotted this little guy.

My iphone does not have a zoom, so as you can tell by the photos, I was really close. I got within 1' of the little guy for the photos.

As soon as I left, mom and dad sandhill crane came back.

AWESOME pics Mike, not very often you are able to get that close to mother nature. Have they been seen in that area before?

The cranes are in this area every year. Last year they had two babies, and before they were old enough to fly, the babies came up missing. Two years ago they had two, and one of them made it.

Those little guys are too cute. I remember when the cranes used to be rare and you hardly ever see them. Seems like they made a monster comeback.

I was visiting the people where I took those pictures today. One of the babies is missing now.
