Water in the oil!

I have a 200 hp outboard with a below deck oil reservoir and the cap is on the top of the gunwales and was left off for about a 12 hour rain. The inlet is about 3/4" and am not sure how much really got in there. My first thoughts were to pump it but thought maybe something like a seafoam additive would work to get rid of the water. I can't imagine a ton got in there but i don't want problems either. Any ideas guys????

Wish I could tell you something comforting but Im sitting here with 4 Machine repairmen and there all saying change the oil. Then there will be no doubt.

Get the oil tank clear of water.

water and injectors don't = nuthin good.

get new oil in there and purge the oiling system.

I agree don't take a chance of hydrolocking your motor. Water is heavier then oil and Im sure it pulls from the bottom of the reservior. If you have any in the tank you will have issues more then likely.

Oil is cheaper than a motor drain it make sure you purge itall out and start over.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I agree to drain, pump, and purge out the oil and start new.

In addition I would add a little (about a table spoon) of isopropel alcohol to the system to remove any water that you can't get out.
