traveler Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 can anyone tell me how to connect the cannon speed and temp sensor to the coated cable and the downrigger ball?thanks,John
GLF Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Welcome to the site John. I split this post off of the other thread and created a new thread for you. You will get a better response this way.If you have a minute, do you mind doing an introduction in the Welcome Center? Thanks,Mike
Nailer Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I have a Canon S&T also. It's a rinkey dink design they have. you need to strip the coating off the cable where it attaches. The unit likes to come unhooked also, so keep the safety line hooked. I always hold mine as I'm lowering it to the water. I modified mine this spring with a wire and some epoxy.
spoonfed Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Nailer let me know how yours works not being on the coated cable. Mine will only read down to 50 ft on reg cable.
Nailer Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I have the coated cable, with this connection. I haven't tried it yet, but it should work just as good.
medic Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) I have the coated cable, with this connection. I haven't tried it yet, but it should work just as good. Nailer, This is the same connection I use for my Depth Raider and it works great. I start losing signal at 180 feet.. Buy some of the liquid electrical tape in a can and hit the swivel and bolt. It all helps.. Edited April 20, 2009 by medic Addition to post
Vitalidle Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Would you all buy the cannon again if you could? I see they are less then 300 bucks for a new one at some places.
Nailer Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Canon has discontinued there s&t. For that reason No.If I had to do it again it would be a Depth Raider.I know the guys at Johnson Outdoors, so I got a deal on mine.

salmonquest Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I like my cannon but I would go DR or new fish hawk.
traveler Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 Thanks All for the great info. I have it set up on bare cable but only get consistant readings down to about 50 ft. I'll change to coated cable - with the solid connection Nailer recommends and the liquid tape idea from Medic. Wish I new about Cannon discounting this before paying full retail earlier in the Spring.
