DKuiper Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 At the urging of a grandson in Racine went over to fish a few days. My son Matt went with me. Only a few boats fishing and those were in the harbor and around the river mouth. I decided to try Bender Park the first day. It is just north of a power plant. One boat fishing near the wall there but all they had were small browns. We went a bit south and fished off a reef going out from the Wind Point Lighthouse. Went 7 for 11 with one of the fish being a 13# King. Also took a small coho. The other 5 were browns up to 11#. Next morning we launched at Racine and made the run back up to Wind Point. Went 14 for 20. Two lakers of about 7# (legal in Wi) and 12 Browns with the biggest at 13.8#. Most ran from 6 to 10#. Ran 4 riggers with spoons which took the King and a few of the browns. Most fish came off the big boards with the lines back 100' with reef runners and husky jerks. Lost some gear to snags going over the reef, had a few chinese fire drills with a relatively inexperienced crew but a great trip. Great facilities at the ramps in both Racine and Bender Park. Super weather. And not a fishing boat in sight! Will be an annual trip for us!
Nailer Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Sounds like a great trip for Dad, Son, and Grandson.
