GLF
I picked up a couple of these ProTroll Stingfish at D & R Sports today. They look good, and I hope to put them in the water this weekend in St. Joseph. Has anyone used them for spring coho before?

Paulywood
Brek had good luck with a flatfish trolled off a downrigger in St. Joe last year. I have never had much luck with them. They are very touchy to keep running true. They will spin out if you are going to fast. If you check the archives I think we had a discussion about them last year. Priority1
Yep it's a flatfish. I had a thread on flatfish awhile back. As is, you need to run them slooow. Here is the link. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9551&highlight=flatfish
csootsman
I have never used them on the lake. But I do use the heck out them on the river for winter steelhead, they are deadly in the river. But as other's have stated they are speed sensativeClair
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed
I've tried them on occaison with mixed results. Last year, we did catch a few fish with them late April to early May before the fish moved really deep. I've never had much luck with them after the weather warms up and gets into summer. As everybody else has stated, they don't like to go fast.
Adam Bomb
Didnt someone come out with a bait thats very similar to the flatfish, but can be run at higher speeds? Seems i read about one in GLA Magazine last year.
gordymohr
Hey GLF ! I dont have any experience with the stingfish, I use the kwikfish made by luhr jensen in the fickle pickle color. Have caught salmon using them off inline planers in Sept when the fish are cruising around harbour mouths. Another lure of the same type is the flatfish. They also make the new model flatfish- the M-2. It has a redesigned lip wich makes it dive to 20ft without the need for any added weights on the line. pulpfishin
If color is the determining factor you picked it right. Orange and black have been hot at St. Joe. Ran flatfish last spring with no luck, they don't like 2.5 sog.
boomerang
Didnt someone come out with a bait thats very similar to the flatfish, but can be run at higher speeds? Seems i read about one in GLA Magazine last year.YES, ive got some pro toll sting king w/echip and apex hot spots and they are for trolling and are more speed tolerant!!http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0044541118693a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=sting+king&Ntk=Products&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat350017-cat600178&id=0054179110974a&navCount=3&podId=0054179&parentId=cat600178&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QZ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

1mainiac
They work great Mike but run hard on the brakes They like about 1.5 to 1.8 max I used to use them all they time and have tried a bunch of the new improved ones over the years. They all like it nice and slow they also don't care for snap swivels I have tied them up with Flouro leaders about a ft or two long to a bead chain. They are deadly on Browns in the spring once you get em to run just off the bottom.
Priority1
Adam, Move the tie point down the bill of the flatfish. It will run at higher speeds. It's doable on some of the flatfish type lures.
SUPERTRAMP
The Stingfish appears to be an electronic Kwikfish be very careful of speed trolling these as they don't troll well above 2 mph they are a little more forgiving than a flatfish but not much.
