Adam Bomb Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 What a dandy!...I honestly think Saginaw Bay is on the verge of producing one of those giants. With all the excellent recruitment we've experienced the odds are defintiely up that a fish can live long enough attain that size. And with all the big fish being caught for the shiver, it seems like a good indicator of things to come. Been allot of nice ones caught out here, but not many that i consider GIANTS! Would love to see the day when we can rival a fishery like Bay of Quinte again.
Walleye Express Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 If the abundance of baitfish I've been seeing in the rivers and that first record reproduction year (now in it's 5th year of growth) has anything to say about it, it will happen and probably within ther next 3 years.
Adam Bomb Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I agree Dan, the Bay is teeming with bait. The fish this winter are stockier than ever!...It wont be long and our average sized fish will be back to where it once was, but with unbelievable numbers. Ive found perch, white bass, shad and shiners in fish ive cleaned this winter along with several unknowns because they were too far gone. Seems the forage base is wide. I really love the fact that theyre utilizing the bass as that is an extremely untaped resource in the Bay. And i feel its having an impact because the white bass we're catching are some real dandies. Not so many 5-6"ers, but many in the 13-15" range...Awesome whiteys! Im sure theyre benefitting from the forage explosion as well though. I love the Bay, your hard pressed to find a place like it. Its definitely has a special place in my heart.:D
