joelsanders Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Do they make j-plugs smaller than the #3 size ? Does anyone ever run the smaller plugs earlier in the summer, and also does anyone run any bigger than a size #5 in the fall. I know that tomic lures have a size#7
Priority1 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I think the # 5s measure about 5-3/4 inches long. I don't run any bigger ones, but I would if I had some. The 5s especially the glows have been good, but I mostly fish salmon only in August. I have a few of the 3s and have taken fish on them. I never saw any smaller than 3s.
mattmishler Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 i start fishing the 3s around the week befor 4th of july and take fish on them untill im done fishing. there something different to put in there face
Nucleus Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 3" is the smallest ive seen of both J-Plug and Tomic. But theres a Canadian luremaker company named Lyman lures, they make plugs down to 1.5 or 2". Have a look at their plugs here: http://www.lymanlures.comThey have some really nice patterns, take well care of the plugs, cause they are made of wood./Kjell
Priority1 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 If a guy had some time on his hands, he could whittle up some Js out of wood dowels or old handles. A little paint and they'll be collectors items 50 years from now. Everyone gets hung up on pretty paint jobs and smooth looking lures. I don't think the fish give a rip about how even or pretty they look.
JWheeler Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 some of my most beat up lures outproduce some new shiny lures
Nucleus Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 some of my most beat up lures outproduce some new shiny luresMm ive noticed the same.
SkeinMachine Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Lyman makes their plugs from a #1 to a #9 monster. #4 is the standard sized(same with a J plug). Lyman Lures.
