Walleye Express Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 To all MCBA Captains:Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) has proposed legislation (S.3377) that would do away with the requirement of small boat operators (read that: Charterboat operators such as ourselves) from obtaining a TWIC card. NACO has sent an email to its members suggesting that this bill will be acted on soon, and all interested parties should contact their senators indicating their support for this legislation.I have attached a word document which discribes the bill in more detail. You may use the information below to contact our Michigan Senators.Do it today, or do it very soon.Rich Haslett, President Michigan Charterboat AssociationLevin, Carl- (D - MI) 269 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510(202) 224-6221Web Form: levin.senate.gov/contact/index.cfmStabenow, Debbie- (D - MI) 133 HART SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510(202) 224-4822Web Form: stabenow.senate.gov/email.cfmFrom: [email protected]To: Subject: Info on TWIX CardDate: Fri, 19 Sep 2008 14:53:47 +0000Content-Type: Multipart/mixed;boundary="NextPart_Webmail_9m3u9jl4l_29300_1221836144_2"I Just E-mailed both Senators concerning the TWIC cards and my urgings to them to retract this stupid law/rule. Do you know I still have not recieved my card. They did cash my check but lost all my paper work and don't seem very compitent to find it or even a little ancious to let me apply for another.
Jenny Ann Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I have had that stupid card and now I am finding it agrivating that they cant decide what to do,... Dont get me wrong, I will be happy to not have to pay them but it would have been nice to know this past spring before they took my $$..
justenough Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I'm with you I went right down and got mine and now this, but that's our Goverment they can't deside on any thing I was told to get it because everyone will have too
tangled mess Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 i was told this spring to wait until the end of season to get mine because they might change it and glad i did
shu9265 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 This is good News Dan. I also have been putting off getting in on this thing. Now I am glad that I waited.
Walleye Express Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Don't get to excited yet Bill. I'm not sure if this Reversal is just for Michigan Charter Captains or not. Plus, I just recieved a notice in the mail from the Coast Guard yesterday, telling me the deadline for having a TWIC card has been moved back, but anybody without one after this new expiration date will not be able to get or re-new their Captains License.
