hourlate Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I put this in the marine electronic forum as well, but wanted to make sure that it got coverage as I generally only review this forum and the fishing reports.I went out on a charter (Desparado) out of Grand Haven for a corporate event. By the way, I highly recommend Desparado for similar events it was a great time. Anyway Bob had a small handheld temp and depth sensor that just clipped to the downrigger ball. It was blue and measured ~1.5" wide and 2" long with a small digital readout and 2 buttons. When we retrieved the ball the first time and removed the gauge you press a button and it gives you water temp by depth in 5' intervals. Bob indicated he bought it at cabelas for ~70 or so. Seems more affordable to those on a budget than a fishhawk or similar with comparable results (minus obviously ball speed). Problem is that I cannot find it by google search or at the cabelas site. Does anyone know what the name of the device is or where I may be able to purchase one?Hourlate/Marty
Nailer Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 It's called a Fish Locator. I'm %99 sure it's isn't made any more. Cabelas did sell them.
Line Dancin Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Nope not made any more. I got the last one shipped in from cabelas last summer when i lost my original one. It came from a store out west. It's model is "GMT-40" if you want to try and search for one. good luck. i wish i had been able to get another one. Oh Well.
Bob's Outdoors Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Yeah, the GMT-400 was a great little gadget and cheap too. have no idea why but it is no longer available from anywhere I have been able to find. I had one and for some reason failed to clip it to the line BEFORE dropping it in the water.
