  1. Nice job Jarod. Sorry to hear about all the gear. It sure is gorgeous in Frankfort. I dont fish it often enough, but i always enjoy my time there.
  2. Im a big fan of Beckman nets. They have a heavy duty handle that works well for big fish. Mine extends from 8'-12'. I have room for to manuever it in the boat, if you dont, it may be cumbersome. I still vote for Beckman, just get one with a shorter handle. Theyre a good product, we've had ours forever. I have two hoops for mine, one smaller i use for walleye and larger one with a bigger net bag for salmon. I like to put adhesive velcro on my net handle as well as on my net bag to contain the large net bag. Take and double the velcro around the one of the bottom strands of the net bag and stick it to itself. Then put a piece on the handle in the appropriate location for your net bag and stick on. For added druability on the net handle i wrap each end of the velcro with electical tape....Keeps the net bag from dragging and works much better than a release IMO....Its very quick to reset.
  3. The way the weather looks, itll probably be Friday before i get there as well.
  4. We fish off a 21' boat that has a 8' 9" beam. Most generally we are not fishing in traffic, so we just manuever the boat to keep the fish behind us and dont plan on clearing any rods unless its necsessary. Most times if we have to clear a rod its a diver or a core line because of a wild fish. Or I might move a rigger rod to a different holder to open the back up a bit more for netting. Normally we have 3 guys and run an 8-9 rod spread involving 4 divers, 2 riggers and 2-3 cores.
  5. Hey Matt, our boat name is AJ. Decals right on the side, you cant miss it. From a distance we look allot like the sherrif boat on this side of the state. Ive been told that more than once...lol....Anyhow, its a 21' Hydra-Sports with a 2 stroke 150 Johnson and a 9.9 4 stroke kicker. I normally monitor 68 over there, but not knowing anyone we rarely talk on it. I ran into a guy last week that i know from our side of the state and we went on 69 to talk to avoid getting cut off during conversations. Other than that, it dont matter to me what channel we go to.

I just hope im over there. We were supposed to come over yesterday, but the weather has us a bit reluctant. Wind forcast dont look pretty for the rest of the week. So, im not sure if ill be over unless the forcast looks more favorable. Right now its supposed to be SW winds and 4-7' waves on Thursday and 30 knot NW winds Friday w/4-7' waves forcasted. Things are gonna change with that wind and itll be one rough S.O.B.!!!

  6. Its a tough call Todd. Im only 2 1/2 hours away and have delayed my trip two days now. To be honest, the forcast does not look favorable. Tomorrow is supposed to have 1-3 building to 2-4. Overnight its supposed to go 4-7' and remain that way until Friday. Wind is supposed to be change directions and be 30 knots outta the NW on Friday. So, i may not make it over there this week at all. I just cant see spending the money or wasting time when the lake is like that. Its just not fun to go out in those conditions. Already been a few accidents this year and one fatality. So, from my standpoint, its just not worth it at this point. Obviously everything could change or the forcast could be way off. Im gonna wait another day and see if things change....Like i said....its a tough call.
  7. Very nice. Nothing beats big water fishing....It lights people up with joy.
  8. Nice job over there. Thanks for the report. I wish i would have been there to witness that handlining ordeal. I can only imagine the atmostphere. Congrats on the big fish and succsessful trip. Trips like that are a real confidence builder when your first starting out.
  9. Nice job. Sorry to hear you couldnt finish the deal on that hawg!!!
  10. Im leaving in the morning Robert. I plan to go right back where we finished up last week to start. Ill let you know what i find down there. Ill be back on Friday sometime. Probably wont be till the afternoon before im home though, so i may not be much help to you for the weekend.
  11. Stuff like this makes a mandatory boaters saftety/operation course sound good. But at the same time, many who grew up on the water and are safe ethical boaters suffer because they get forced into something that they shouldnt have to do.
  12. OK...Just seems like it didnt upload a new image every minute or it was a very similar image and i didnt catch the differences. For instance, one shot had a guy standing right in front of the cam. That one seemed to be on there for a bit while i was online. He coulda just stood there though watching the rods. Let us know when your out again and ill try and get some better intel for you now that i understand the dynamics of the set up. However, i am leaving for Ludville in the AM and wont be returning until Friday afternoon. So, unless someone else watches it until then, you wont be able to get any info.
  13. Nice work as usual. We used to get a few walleye of of Port Austin years ago. When you got one, it was big.7#+...Always a nice bonus to the bag. But like you said, you think you got on a laker cause it feels like an old boot. First one i ever got was in the dark. Got it up to the boat, flipped on the lights to find a set of glowing eyes...I was like, its not a silver fish, but i know what it is and we'll take it!!!
  14. Im not exactly sure if your supposed to have a live video feed or just images, but all i had were images with a date and time stamp. I could look at the image, then if i refreshed all i got was a white box with the little red "x" in it and no picture. Id have to get off the site and return to see the image again. New images were spaced out quite a bit. The pics were of pretty good quality though for a web cam.
  15. Thanks for the stroy Bill, that was a great read. Great job helping out some folks in need. It is sad all the inconsiderate people there are out there. Probably the same people that would drive right by when they see your in need of help. That really boils my blood. See it allot ice fishing on Saginaw Bay...Gotta get them fish, who cares if someone might be hurt or dying, or need a tow....Sad.
  16. Your gonna love it up there. Its beautiful up there and the water gets DEEP quick! Sounds like fishings pretty good as of late too!
  17. Thats a good point Mike. I normally run mine just so the line doesnt pay out. Then when i get a big fish on, ill back it off and let them get rid of all that pissin' vinegar!
  18. Sorry to hear that John. Woulda got my blood boiling too. Thank god there isnt any damage to your dream boat...Ecspecially this time of year!
