  1. Welcome aboard Tom. This is a great site. Looking forward to shooting the breeze about fishing etc on here.
  2. Ah the rigors of fishing....Cant be good all the time i guess. Good luck next trip out. Have fun with the new toys. Hopefully they get scratched up a bit.
  3. Thanks for the heads up Dan...Now that i have black maling leverage.....
  4. Ive never had any luck running a spoon behind a flasher. But, in all honesty, i have never gave it a fair enough chance. Ive heard its really effective down deep. That makes sense to me. So, in saying that, i run mine clean more often than not.
  5. Your flies look great. Glad theyre putting lots of fish in the boat for you. Its a great feeling to catch fish on something you built yourself. Probably why i love lure building so much. Dont be suprised if you start to build other tackle as well. I know i got the bug and have built allot of different lures. Anyhow, I buy all my banded mylar from Siggs Rigs. They sell it by the yard and have bulk pricing options as well. Good pricing and got everything really fast. I highly recommend dealing with them. I get my glow beads from Fisher Tackle. Theyre 12 mm ultra glow beads. Green, Chart, Purple, Blue and Pink are available. The fly heads i buy are made by silver horde. I use both the magnum glow fly heads as well as the smaller roller beads. As far as line i go with 60# Fluorocarbon leader material and tie tandem singles or the tournament tie. The fly heads, leader material and standard colored 8 mm beads i just buy local at Franks Great Outdoors in Linwood. As far as putting it all together, i wrap mine with thread and finish the threads off with fly head cement. You will literally tear the tentacles off the fly before that collar will slip off the fly head. Very durable doing it this way. I also tie some flies with Flashabou. Its a P.I.T.A. so i dont do too many like that. I have a mag glow bloody nose fly that i tie with flashabou. It works real well for me, so its worth the hassel. Thats enough babbling for now...Have fun building.
  6. OK, any chance i could get that from ya? A PM, email or post would be much appreciated. [email protected] Thanks...Adam
  7. Good for you!...Congratulations on your first deer with archery equipment. Whatta rush huh! Nice shot and a great story as well.
  8. Hey Dan, ever get that pickled salmon recipe from Scott?
  9. Whats our Uncles name again? Seems i didnt get my gift yet this season.
  10. I bet. I do most of my fishing on Saginaw Bay for walleye, but from time to time we hook into lake trout. Those are a real treat on the short stick as well. Landed 3 out there last winter. What fun!!!
  11. Thank all you vets for your service. Today is also the aniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Let us remember all who went down with the ship that stormy day.
  12. Nice job Dan...Nice tall rack on that buck.
  13. This contest is coming along very nicely. Lots of nice deer, congrats to all the happy hunters.
  14. Thats a great point Frank. I used to deal with allot of almuminum coil stock for trim and wrapping treated lumber is a no no. It will definitely eat away the aluminum over time...Hope a bad day didnt get worse for ya now. Probably the very reason they make marine grade plywood.
  15. Nothin' wrong with that. Im hoping to pile a couple up myself. Got plenty of duck, now i need some deer!!!
  16. UGH...Nothing like kicking a dog when he's down.
  17. Yuppers, your are correct sir. Seems to me around this section of the state the east/west is closer to about 3/4 of a mile if i remember correctly. But for the sake of the conversation i just generalized with the mile figure.
  18. Congratulations Mike. Nice deer and good eats!
  19. I should also add that the center numbers will increase to 59 and then theyll change back to 00. This is true for both the N and W set of numbers. So if you were at 43 59 999 83 59 999 the next set of numbers north and west would be N 44 00 000 W 84 00 000
  20. In short, its the center number. If they say theyre in the 14's and 54's the N center number will be 14 and the W center number will be 54. Every number you go up or down that equates to around a mile. The last three numbers are what pinpoints you along that line. If your at 43 14 500 83 54 500 your half way to the next number in each set. Thats why people will ask what the first digit of the last set is allot of times. It allows them to determine where about north and west they are on each line. Cause after all, you could be nearly a mile off.
