  1. Exellent post Frank. You took the words outta my mouth!
  2. Only about 5" where im fishing. The bay ice has blown out. Not sure about the ice out on the river, but im sure its not overly thick with all that rain. Had another great day on the ice. It was a roller coaster bite with many peaks and valleyes. I drilled a ton of holes today. Only sat down on a couple good holes all day long. Other than that i picked off a couple here and there. Ended up with my 25 crappie and like 6-8 perch. Got a nice batch of crappie. I havent put the ruler to them, but im quite sure the smallest is over 11" and the biggest is over 13". Just awesome.
  3. Damn nice buck. Pass on an ataboy for me hey Scotty!
  4. That seems backwards to me.....Anyhow, I guess it depends what way your retrieving your bait into the current. Retrieve faster going with it and slower going into it. Same reasoning you gotta slow down going into a current or speed up going with it.
  5. Im not a big fan of segmenting anything. More knots to possibly fail and then even more line to reel in. I keep mine at set lengths for each rod. Plus its less confusing when things are popping. No denying how much you had out.
  6. Thanks fellas, it sure is allot of fun. Nothing like big slabs on light tackle....Hit the honey hole again this morning with my brother and his B.I.L. Bite was slow today. We still mustered 24 nice crappie and a half dozen perch. I think the fluctuating water level and the storm coming in had them in a funk. Water was down a good 18" today and dropped more while we were there. Good ole south winds for ya. Pics and a small video clip to come once i get em loaded.
  7. I like packing my jigs with spikes, 2-3 most times for me, although i will go to a single if thats what it takes. I like lots of bait, dont have to rebait nearly as often. I do this for both gills and specs. Most times i use a horizontal type jig thats fairly heavy, but has a small hook. Im a big fan of marmish jigs(tungston, which are heavier for their size), but also use jigs like Marmooka, Diamond jigs, Fat boys, genz worms and my homemade shad darts. Ratfinkies are also a favorite of mine in shallower waters.
  8. I have a heavily padded camera case and i put a couple of those chemical heat packs in there to keep it warm. Works very well for me on all my ice fishing adventures. And, anyone that knows me, knows i take allot of pics and vids out on the ice. Plus, i always keep a spare set of batteries just incase. I tried rechargables, but didnt have much luck with them. I like the lithium batteries. They last a LONG time. One of the few things that i think are of real value for the money. Good luck to you Mike.
  9. Got a call on Tuesday from a good friend that he got into some real nice Crappie while perch fishing. So on Wednesday i met up with him to do some fishing. Wow, whatta blast. Lots of 9-13" Crappie and some 9"+ perch. Also caught several undersized walleye as well. Heres the pics of my Limit, my 12 perch and the 9 Crappie that my buddy Moe caught while chasin them perch. That afternoon i took some friend out from Oregon who are in town for Christmas. Theyd never been ice fishing before and had an absolute blast. I set em up with vexilars and all the equipment and did some coaching. Didnt take long and they were catching some nice fish. Melinda and Mike ended up with 21 slab Crappie, 6 perch and a couple gills. They also caught a few undersized walleye as well. They were stoked. Melinda's catch. She was pumpin em pretty good! Headed back out christmas eve morning for somemore fun. Spudded the hole out, set the vex in and the fish were down there waiting for me. It was a bit of an up and down bite all day, but i caught a ton of fish and some real nice quality fish as well. Didnt keep any Crappie unless it was 10" or better today. Ended up with my 25 Crappie and 8 9"-10 1/2" perch. Also had a fish ripping on my tip up, but it got off. Felt real nice too. Merry Christmas guys, enjoy!
  10. Good luck Bob, tear em up...Love them whitefish!!!
  11. Awesome pic Matt. Good luck with the yotes! Fun to hunt, but man do they stink...I dread skinning them!
  12. We have an Evenrude 9.9 four stroke and it works great for us. Its a 2000. Had to put in a computer board and a diaphram in the fuel pump, but that motor has ALLOT of hours on it in the last 9 years. Been a good motor for us.
  13. Merry Christmas to everyone at GLF. Your all good people, enjoy the holidays with your family and friends.

  22. Nope, have always used Mason Lead Core. Never had any issues with it that werent caused by fighting other fish or my own stupidity...lol
  23. Allot of guys like and use Cuddy Back. I personally never got a trail cam. Was going to and then gave up my lease and never got one. I know Fishingmachine2 uses a Cuddy Back and loves his. Hopefully Scotty will see your post and reply.
