  1. Well thats a pretty good excuse, i guess we could let it slide...LOL...Nice job, awesome pics!
  2. Im not a big fan of snow period, so i wouldnt make it on the west side. I only want snow for opening day of gun season so i can see the deer better and then once i have a foot of ice an inch or two for traction. Other than that, i dont need it...So about 4" for the year is plenty MA NATURE!!!
  3. Well, not what you had in mind, but its always great to get out. Nice job, youll get some payback next time im sure.....I think its awesome those guys took the kids out fishing. Nothing better than that!
  4. Very nice. My dad made some outta a material called viaseal, kind of a vinyl type material for his ice rods. I have the clam rod socks for my ice rods, never really used any for the open water. I know theyd be the catch meow though..Good post Peter.
  5. Nice fish Ken and crew...Thats just awesome!
  6. Same to you Frank. Happy New Year everyone.
  7. Alright Ken!!!! Those fish have awesome color...Just grogeous!!!
  8. Way to go Scotty. You and your crew have had a fine season...Gonna be tough to top it in 2010!!!
  9. It depends where i fish. Most inland lakes and river excursions im a walker as well as some of my Saginaw Bay outtings. Have walked all of a mile or more many times...and have been walking about 3/4 of a mile lately...I either pull my one man shanty with my gear or pack light using a back pack to haul my vex, lures and other tackle, rod bag with rods, and in one hand a bucket and the other a spud/auger. Other places a machine is a must IMO. The bay is a "machine fishery" if you ask me if you want to be succsessful consistantly. In the end, ice fishing is no different than summer fishing IMV...if you wanna play the game you gotta spend some $$$. Todays transportation and technology only increase the quality of the experience as well as the haul at days end.
  10. Your right there Dan....my Dad and Uncle often express those limitations to me though...They say im crazy...lol...Im that pup your training to stay, but breaks when you dont want it to...Thats how i am when theres good ice and fish under it! I just wanna go go go...I think i enjoy my icefishing as much as any fishing i do. I dont know what it is about pulling a fish through a hole in the ice, but it turns my crank! Oh, was down to Linwood today, ice as far as you can see with the naked eye and a couple guys out about a 1/4 mile. Its time for me to do some recon on my own i think...Im hopin perch are whats for dinner!
  11. Big numbers of fish, a good chance at a trophy, adventure, good comradere...what more can you ask for? Its coming along, slowly but surely. That thaw and wind set us back on the west side. Blew the ice out. Usually mid January on the west side for ATV travel. So, we're about on par if we dont get bombed and the wind stays down and we get some cold.
  12. You guys are obviously not taking advantage of the awesome opportunity our state has to offer. Theres some damn good fishin out there and its a ton of fun...Maybe im just a fishin nut, but i love it all. A 1 1/2# crappie on 2# line is all you want. Makes big runs and tears you up...Did i tell you about the world class walleye fishin on Saginaw Bay?
  13. Buy some short rods, a flasher and go have some fun!...Ice fishin rocks!
  14. Good luck Robert, i wish i lived closer too as i would come up and join in the fun.
  15. Welcome back Glenn. Best of luck with your shoulder, hopefully you can regain enough strength to tangle with ole Mr. King this fall. And good luck with all the fishing you do.
  16. Dang, thats not good. Sorry to hear about that, that would definitely ruin your day. Youd think theyd fix that with all the problems it causes...Maybe the wrecker company owns it....lol
  17. You better talked to JayD. He hated ice too, we're getting him converted to the dark side!...Just think "ice is nice".
  18. Run and gun is my motto. I do most of my ice fishing on the big water so i do allot of running. Generally 15-30 minutes at a hole depending on what im seeing. Obviously if there are fish in an area then ill swiss cheese the area to keep after em. Otherwise, im on the move. I do the same with panfish. I drill allot of holes and only fish a few minutes at a hole and if theyre not there i move on. Thats why its so important to have your gear organized and a system thats effiscient...cause effisciency will ultimately equal succsess in my book...Obviously if theyre down there i sit until theyre gone and normally you can revisit that spot and get em again.
  19. Fished again today. Got a late start cause of the snow storm this morning. Made it out around 10 or so. Fish were pretty tight lipped today. Lotta lookers down there. The water came up a good 18" while i was there. Combine that with the storm and i think that explains their fickle demeanor. Still caught a bunch of fish, but allot of smaller ones today. Ended up with a dozen dandies though and three nice perch. Didnt take any pics cause i forgot the camera....The walk back was less than pleasant with the drifts and slush...UGH....Tomorrows gonna be an off day i think....LOL
