  1. Oh, on my shorter lead cores, i also run the older Daiwa 47 HS. 3,5,10 are my favorites. They seem to take allot of fish on our boat. When using I would let out all the core and then soem backer to allow it to achieve some depth. Otherwise its not getting down to where it should be, your going to have the bowing issues already discussed from the rod to planer board, and you could possibly weaken the sheath where it rubs on the rod tip and/or release as you troll. Lead core gets it strength from the sheath so youll want to protect it all you can. Just my $.02.
  2. Well, give us a price range, how many colors of lead core? Thats gonna be a big factor on reel selection. I run Penn 320's GTi' up to 5 color and then go to 330 GTi's for anything up to 10. Great reels, not the cheapest and not the most expensive either. As far as rods, i use 8'6" Shakespear Wolverine rods. They work fantastic. Not sure that theyre available anymore. Should be able to find something comprable though. Its just a DR rod. Some folks like a 9 or 10' rod for full cores.
  3. Thats a sweet pic right there!
  4. I wouldnt mess with the flags when pulling the discs. Speed and the drag is gonna pull them down. As far as leaders, i run 10# on mine and about 6' long when i pull spoons. Im sure someone else will chime in with their favorite set up.
  5. Dude!!!...You filled the boat with fish!...WTG guys!
  6. Sounds like a great trip to me. One youll remember for a long time. Nice work getting it done solo!
  7. Nice job Tom...Seems to be a tough bite lately.
  8. I dont think he's singling anyone out, just stating that we need to slow down put safety first. He simply cited and inscident that occurred first hand. Just so happened to be a smaller boat in this instance. Bottom line...boat size doesnt matter, if your careless, bad things will happen. I think thats the gist of his posting. I think its a great reminder in light of what happened over the weekend.
  9. Great report Bill. I really enjoy your postings, you do a fine job. Keep it up.
  10. Now thats an awesome report right there. Way to go getting the youth involved and they did a fine job by the sounds of it. It dont get any better than that....That unfortunate to hear about that diver. Not a good weekend on the great lakes with the Manistee incident.
  11. Sounds like a three day weekend to me...Great job, enjoyed the photo as well. Pretty cool.
  12. I got a call about this incident this afternoon. The boat is "Kid Again" docked at River Side. Capt. Dave Gramza. The mate suffered the fatality in the crash. But, a gentleman on another site i frequent is friends with the Captains cousin and updated his post around 6 pm saying that one of the passengers has also died. What a tradgic day in Manistee. Prayers go out to the familys of those involved.
  13. Nice links guys.....And dont worry, its not too difficult. Youll get the hang of it. Another way to discern a King from Coho is that you can pick a king up by the tail and swing it like a hammer if you wanted to. Cant do that with a Coho as itll slip through your hands.
