  8. Body Baits like Rapalas, jointed rapalas, thin fins, bombers, small and standard spoons, dodgers and coho flies are all good options.
  9. The Biggest Zboard works pretty good for the huge coppers.
  10. Welcome aboard. Im not a Lake Erie guy, but im sure there are some on here that will let ya know when you can get a boat in there.
  11. Sorry for the long lapse in reports, but ive been a fishing machine for the past four weeks. Also had a stint, house, kid and dog sitting for my Uncle while he was hunting snows in Missouri...so, i havent been near a computer all that much. Anyhow the fishing has been outstanding. Moved my efforts up to the standish area and really got into them up there fishing the 10-13' water depths. Probably the best fishing i seen the entire winter. Simply put, it was unbelievable. From there i moved back closer to home and did a ton of fishing off the Linwood area. Did most of my looking from 15-17' range and had plenty of succsess. Finished my season yesterday morning in 15' of water, the same hole for a week now. Started with an awesome sunrise and a limit within an hour. Despite a tough start it turned out to be a fantastic winter of fishing for me. I really am sad to see it go. But, with the temps and runoff its really become unsafe over the last 36 hours and as im sure many know there have been rescues last night. I knew when i was out yesterday morning that that was it. It was really changing right before my eyes....So, put up all your toys, and get the boat ready..it wont be long. Heres a few pics, i have more to post later on. Wills 10.4# beast...a personal best for this 14 yr old...WTG Will!!! A 7# eye caught from the confines of my Evolution Sabre Shanty
  12. Thatll get the blood flowing for some open water fishing. Just hung up my hard water gear yesterday.
  13. Well i certainly hope that quota is met and that the plants will continue. I know of at least a couple browns that were caught on Saginaw Bay this winter ice fishing. Also several steelhead were caught....above normal #'s IMO. Not sure what that means, but its gotta be a good thing.
  14. A local metal supply shop or even scrap yards have useable metals.
  15. Sonar/GPS....Its your eyes under the water. Lets you know where the fish are and gives you a base point for your game plan.
  16. 1//4" aluminum is a great backing plate. Will not rust, strong, works very well.
  17. I just use a good old fashion sharpening stone. I touch it up after ever session. You could split hairs with that thing!
  18. Been on the ice allot lately coming down the home stretch of our season now that we're into march. Anyhow, here some succsess as of late. Wednesday limit. Moved all over heck and finally settled in 17' of water. Fish all over. Landed 7 legal fish for the night. Vex was lit up. Thursday, same holes...marked very little. Moved around the surrounding area with a few fishing buds. I think we had three fish to show for our efforts and marked next to nothing. Friday, fished south of Linwood in 15'. Landed 5 eyes, 2 keepers and a sheephead. Fish around all night, but they were small walleye for the most part. Saturday, fished the same area as Friday evening, moved up to NP in 18', landed a whitefish and marked very little. From there made a big run north of the Pinconning Bar and fished the breaks up there. Anywhere from 17-23' of water. Landed a steelhead and three eyes, with two being keepers. An interesting outting with my odd catches. Pretty cool. Added the last eye after dark so it made this hero shot at home:lol: Sunday, fished with Dad. Got a real late start. Didnt get out till around 4ish so we didnt go far. Hit 16' off Linwood and got back into the nursery. Several short fish, but none for the bucket. Beautiful night out on the lake with Dad and we got the string pulled a little bit. All good. Monday, Went to the south end of the bay to look around. Wow what a brutal trip. Only marked TWO fish for a half day of fishing. Never got the string pulled! Not sure yet where/if ill go today. Wind is supposed to BLOW today.
  19. Nice work Grant. I think i must be moving around the fish lately. Some succsess, but i cant seem to keep a hold on them rascals.
  20. Congratulations Nick
  21. I always tie 5' of mono on with an arbor knot and then attach the powre pro to it via back to back uni knot. As far as the wire connection, you cannot beat the Willis Knot IMO. Its so nice not dealing with crimps.
  22. That is just aweful. Condolences to the family.
  23. As soon as it gets a bit warmer out.
  24. They work great!
