Leeches definetly work well on harnesses. You may actually get up to 3 fish on one leech....Try and get the biggest ones you can. Franks had some nice ones a few weeks ago, but i dont know now.

Thanks for the report Frank. Nice job by the way in some tough conditions. Damn water temp isnt helping either. Often times when its rough i drift as well. I put my stern to the waves and I keep my kicker running, but in Neutral so that if i need a correction i can make it...same as Frank. I also like to run two bags while drifting because it helps with surges. As far as rod count, i do things the same. Normally theres three of us on the boat, so depending on whats working best i may have all 6 with boards, or if its real ugly out, i may run a couple boards and a BB off the corner on each side. I cant say i blame you for being particular about how things are run because it makes you a confident angler. And a confident angler is a good angler.....Im the same way. I might run it for a bit, but if it dont go, its gotta GO!...Sounds like we're all set a little in our ways....a detriment at times im sure.

I use a standard hook file as well. I run singles on mine and sharpen them the same way Mike does. If it isnt stickin' in your thumb nail its not sharp enough. Doing this will definitley increase your hook up ratio, as do the tandom singles IMO.

Id use em for dipseys and core. Those are my most productive rods, so thats why i suggested it....Not that riggers dont have their days for me.

Great job on the fish K-2 and thank you for the kind words.:cool: The fishing up north is definitely phemoninal. Its like stepping into a different world. Theres just something about that deep, clear cool water and walleye that run 4# and bigger...whats not to love! I was up there a few weeks ago prefishing with a friend for the MWC. We were actually 26 miles out of Augres when we split the transom on the Ranger...Irony....it was dead flat....You could actually rock the 250 Yammy about an inch back and forth.:eek: So, we limped all the way back to Augres...Of course it was only 2 days before the tourney. So, after he made some calls he came up with a boat from his buddy Mike...Dans nephew. It was rough on day 1, so he didnt make the run and only pulled 13# and some change. That was tough to swallow since we were on 19-24# baskets consistantly prefishing up there all week. But, with the way things shook out, he was in the hunt. Luckily day 2 was a much nicer day and he could make the run. Ended up catching 22#+ and earned 12th place...the last money spot. Thanks again for the kind words and great report. Ok, good deal. Im curious Dan, what were you pulling there on Sunday? Makes you wonder where exactly he fished from the Cigar and what he used. I know it was a mob around there, so i didnt do allot of exploring. I ran harnesses with inlines and BB. I tried anywhere from 15'-45' back with the inlines and put the BB within the bottom 5'. I ran my speed from 0.8-1.5 S.O.G. I only boated one eye there and had a couple other soft bites, that i believe were walleye. I was on the east end of the cigar and didnt mark much at all there. Only a few small clouds of bait here and there and very spiratic "hooks", most of which were near bottom. And if i put anything within 5' of bottom it got ate off by the bass, which by the way ranged from 3"-12". Couple that with the boat traffic and it was a combination i just didnt feel like dealing with....So i got outta Dodge...Glad i did.

Dan, the cigar is an alongated hump that runs east and west. Its located basically strait out from the marina and just a smidge to the north. It tops out at 17' and has 19' of water on the west side and 20.5'-21' on the east side. Its a pretty small sturctural element, but its been significant enough to hold the fish and bait. I was on it last week and you were to the NW about 3/4 of a mile just outside the 19' break. Its been good fishing there, but it was overrun with boats on Sunday. I personally didnt mark allot there other than the bass and the lone walleye. I suppose they coulda been on the opposite side than i fished, but, i just didnt feel like fighting the traffic.

Ive thought about it a few times and will probably take the test and get my captains license at some point. I definitely enjoyed working on the charter boat. Its fun to meet new people and see how excited they get when they catch fish. Ecspecially the kids. Doesnt matter if its a walleye, cat or sheephead, their face just lights up with joy. I dont think theres a better feeling than that on this earth....Great vid by the way from this spring. Pretty cool seeing your little guy reel in that steelhead. Thats what its all about.

I know the more you use it with rotators the more it wants to coil up, even with BB swivels. Next thing you know your line gets kinda "coily". I think the twisting may weaken the line. The reason i say that is because my buddy Tim broke two baits off the same wire rod last weekend fighting fish. But he also said that wire had been on there for at least 4 years and needed to be replaced. So, i gotta feeling it was getting weak from all the use because he didnt have any trouble with his other rods that were respooled this season. Other than that, i honestly dont know. Ive never had a problem breaking wire on our boat, other than if i kinked it or something, but never while fighting a fish....Maybe someone else can shed some light on aging wire?

Hey, nice job out there. Ill tell ya, they had me scratching my head for a bit today as well. I heard it was tough for allot of folks. For us our problems lied with boats, and no fish. So, we just kept moving until we found some decent numbers of fish. Once we did, it was on! Now as far as the "tourists" are concenred, i can definitely relate....It can be frustrating out there to say the least. It never siezes to amaze me what some people do out there. Just like the guys that cut in front of your bow when everyone is trolilng one direction and expect you and everyone else to move out of their way... they give ya a look like..."What?":confused:......argh!!!...Thats the time when i wish i had out my 42" 1x10 big boards!

Ive been fishing the Bay now for going on 22 years despite my young age. Im only 26, but have a birthday coming up in November. My Dad started me off out there at the young age of 5. I fell in love with walleye fishing and it quickly became an obsession. Between fishing with my Dad on our boat and hanging out around the "charter dock", (where my Uncle and Dad had their charter), i landed myself a job as mate on Summer Remedy III charters out of Linwood where i worked for 7 years. I also filled in on Beaner II and Marla's Joy Charters if we didnt have a trip and their normal mate wasnt available.....I would have continued my job as mate, but the Capt. hurt his back at DELPHI and had to retire. He retired full disablility and in turn had to give up his charter business because of S.S. disability etc.....My Dad and Uncle gave up the chart biz as well, so most of the time its just Dad and i on our boat. We basically just fish for fun as often as we can and fish a few of the local tournies.....We have a blast, "Eye" fishin's tough to beat.

I thought the same thing Mike. I usually click on this cam once a week and there are alwasy fish that come by with lampreys. Sometimes i think its at least 3 of 10 that have them...others, barey see one.....Any way you look at it....its TOO many.

Well, we got our limit, but it wasnt as easy as "point and click" today...at least not at the start. We pulled up on an area we've been fishing to find it swarming with boats. These boats have all been either to the east or west of us every time out, but had it dialed in today. Well, depsite all the boats the fish had vacated the area anyhow...with the exception of the white bass. ...After catching one eye, feeding the "pihrana" and battling the "tourists", it was time for a move. ...So, we shoot out to the NE to a break that normally has fish along it. But, struck out! Didnt mark but about 3 fish in a 1/4 mile. So, we turned the boat and made a westwardly troll. Along the way we hit one sheephead, then a walleye. Wasnt long and the BB rod doubled right over momentarily, then it was gone. After inspecting the hook i found a couple scales which id say came from one of the beady eyed, toothy criters we were after. Then nothing...Here we've fished an hour and a half and have 2 fish in the boat...How do you do that on Saginaw Bay??? I thought i had accomplished the impossible task. ....After a short discussion we decided it was definitely time for another move. Started the motor, turned NW and ran 3 miles. But, this time when we set the boat down the graph showed allot of promise. With the flat, clear water and high sun the fish were deep...but at least they were there. We were marking them from 18-20' down in 22' of water. We put the inlines back from 35-45' and began our troll. Two passes later we had boated 12. We kept the 10 we wanted and headed in....Finally...."point and click". Today we caught our fish 35' and 45' back with 1 oz. inlines. We were catching those fish that were suspended at 17-18' with the 35' leads and cleaning up the ones within a foot of the bottom with the 45' leads. As far as the harnesses are concerned, we ran two patterns. One bead string was solid gold, the other was brown and gold. The blade has a pretty complex pattern on it. Its a blade i bought from Darren Bernhardt(D&B Fishing) Its painted on the front with Gold Metal flake paint, has a chart edge overlayed with orange. It also has a gold scale tape over that and has poka dots scattered acrossed the chart/orange edge. And to add somemore complexity, it has a copper back. Its a pretty sharp blade, as are most that he makes. We ran the gold on the high line and the brown and gold on the low line. When we were in fish things were poppin'.

Its funny how things differe amongst fisherman. I always run the fly in the fin hole. Our dipseys w/spinnes and flies are almost always our hottest presentation....Gotta love fishin'.
