  2. Thanks for the info Littleboat. Nice looking boats! Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. Out of curiosity, what does the autopilot run? Mine is a 2003 with I/O. Not sure if that makes a diff. But it's cable steering and not hydraulic. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  4. Love the Trophy. I wish mine was green and an outboard. I have the 2152 with same hardtop, but all white. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  5. Nice eaters. Glad you made it through safe. I've had that experience a few times when I had a short sided 18'. I am not fond of the boat using colors or work lights that are so bright it ruins my night vision. There are a couple of charters out of Frankfort that do that and it makes it hard to see. I have taken to turning my headlamp on bright and shine back at them, but their work lights are so bright, I don't think it bothers them. I think the spotlight needs to go back in my boat when the salmon fishing kicks in gear. I wish there was some enforcement about using only running lights in the harbor and channel. Good luck fishing! Prime time is almost here. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  7. Thanks jdh, great report. I was just looking at the Grand Haven area. Is the municipal launch by Harbor Island the place to go down there? Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  8. Set up lines in Betsie bay and trolled out. Mainly fished straight out in 30-60 fow most of the morning. Picked up a 13.5 pound lake trout on a Salmon Candy brown edge flasher with blue fly. Had a second hit on that combo, which was on a 150' weighted steel setup at around 2 mph. The second fish was a screamer. Took the board to the back of the boat fast. Fought it for 3-4 minutes and suddenly it was gone. I haven't heard of any kings near Frankfort yet, but it sure acted like one. Maybe a large coho? I don't know. Water temp here was a lot warmer than Ludington. 42.5- 44.3 most of the morning. Pulled lines around 10 and headed for breakfast at the Lighthouse Cafe. Tight lines. 9. Got a late start as I didn't really want to go out of an unfamiliar port in the dark. Tried trolling along the shallows North of there for the first hour and a half, using natural color scatter raps and other body baits. Tried a couple spoons too to no avail. Eventually trolled into 40-50 fow, and no hits or marks on the screen. Used one rigger line and two planner boards with various lead and weighted steel lines. Tried some short dodgers and peanut flies, 8" flasher and fly. Nothing. Eventually pulled lines and ran out the the drop-off near the point north of Ludington. Ran some gear there for about 45 minutes and again, no marks or anything. It was an east wind and the water temp seemed to be 41 - 42 most everywhere I went. There were work boats dredging the harbor and a freighter came in at one point, so really couldn't fish that. I did like the port and it's just over an hour from my home, so I would go back when I hear it picks up. The guy at the tackle store said he heard a few guys have got Kings already. But it sounds like the browns and coho are slowing down. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  10. Does anyone out there have and tips for Ludington at this time of year? I plan on driving down in the morning. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. I did the same exact thing Dan. Set one rod up with steel to try it three years ago. By the end of three times out I was sold. I do a thing though, so whether newby or my experienced forgetful self, I don't have to worry about spool problems. That thing is called a slide diver. I get the kit to make them magnum with heavier weight. Then about 20-30 yards of 25# mono for the slide, and 20-25# test floral for the 4' leader. My philosophy is the steel never has a chance to birdsnest, because the mono wraps it tight and the mono also acts to give stretch during the fight. I still use a short snubber at diver. Tried without, and went back to the snubber. A short one. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  12. Yeah Dan, I'm still on their free account. Hit the three bars top left. Choose sign in. And then create account on the sign in page. I can't say what happens after that, but I am pretty sure you should be able to make a free account and ask your questions. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  13. I think they have a free membership too. I'll check to make sure. I think there is an option to pay and be in the admiral's club or something. And there is benefits to that. But I don't pay. Unless they changed it. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  14. I have no idea Dan, but try posting your question on "The Hull Truth" forum in the appropriate section. When ever I have specific boat or motor issues, I find it a great resource because they have so many active members, and both salt and fresh water guys. You may have to set up a user name to post a question, or you could try and search as you can read stuff already on there without joining. I did a little search, and there were some Honda overheating questions. Maybe something will help. Good luck! Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  16. Got the boat back from storage the day before and rushed to get everything aboard for the last day of beautiful weather. Went straight out to about 50 fow and just drove a bit trying to figure out a game plan. Wasn't marking anything so decided to just check out a few spots. Maybe a dozen other boats were out and basically all scattered. One up by shore, a couple out deeper, some south, some north. I headed towards the shelf and stopped several times to check for fish. Just wasn't marking anything. Eventually, I started marking a few and decided to switch motors and drop lines. Ran one rigger and two planers. This was the first time trying out new Amish trolling bags and it took a little time away from fishing setting them first amidships, then towards the bow. The jury is still out on those. They worked fine, just not sure if they helped much in any way. Anyway, I did get an 8# Laker on 150' weighted steel. I was running a brown edge Salmon Candy flasher and bluish fly on that line. The other planer had a Thunderstick for a while, then flasher and fly. I tried several different spoons on the rigger. I didn't go super shallow as I got out just about sunrise and most boats were moving out already. It was a fun first trip and hope to get out soon again. Tight lines! 17. I agree with FDB, cut the swivel off and troll the line for a bit with nothing at all on it. I would put a different ball bearing swivel on it too once you real it back in. The one you were using could have a catch in it or something. I would then try a lure which doesn't spin to see if the line stays straight. Is this an open face reel? If so remember not to reel a lot if the drag is running out or if it's turning with the bail. That will twist your line quickly. If all is well, try going back to your spinning lures to see if the swivel is keeping up and line staying straight. The only swivel I buy unless in a pinch, are the Torpedo brand. I stay away from box store brands like South Bend. It's not worth it to spend all the money we do on equipment and then put a 50¢ swivel on the line. Good ones may cost two bucks apiece or more. Also, what kind of line? I don't know what 1 pound spoon is. Spool? Sometimes it can twist as you are winding it on the reel with open face. Test by stopping occasionally to see if the line is twisting as you're putting it on. If so, turn the bulk spool over so it unwinds from the opposite direction. Good luck! I know that is an aggravating situation. Also, I see you put this question in the Recipe section of the site. You may get more responses if in the fishing gear part of forum. Tight lines! 18. Thanks for the report. I fish Frankfort too. Hope to get out tomorrow evening if the weather allows. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  19. Cool. I recall Megabite doing something similar. The clipboard sounds like a great idea. I like the latitude/depth idea for location rather than longitude. I may have to print some blank sheets out and give it a try. Through there years I've started several little notebooks for salmon, ice fishing, etc, and they always seem to get misplaced. Thanks for the tips. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  20. Great report. Sounds like one of my fiascos. Do you do that spread sheet on your phone, or computer? Or is it some kind of app? Just wondering. Nice details. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  21. My wife and I were out that evening too. We went out to the point. Marked a lot of fish but got skunked. Yes, a lot of ships and barges that day! The fish are up a little higher as of last night (8/9). Buddy and I got 4 out of six hits. Three salmon and one lake trout. All on flasher fly combos. One hit we didn't get in was a meat rig. Three were on kevs gf and pickled sunshine off the wire slide diver set at 175'. Worked 170-200 fow out front. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  22. Fyi, there are new links for temps now. I just got an email with the latest after inquiring why they were down. If you want the latest surface temps, try here... https://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/contour/region_map.html
  23. Great report. Sounds like it was quite a battle. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  24. Finally got out fishing a couple of mornings on the 14th and 15th. On the 14th fishing alone I got skunked. Marked a fair amount of fish off the shelf but couldn't get anything to go. Mostly targeting kings or the suspended marks. Water temp was pretty cold way up high. Northeast winds and 40° 50' down. Not many fish at the cleaning station on morning of 14th but one guy had 3 nice kings out of 8 hits, and shared most of them came 40-60 down in about 120' fow. He was fishing a little south. So on the 15th I woke to southeast winds, started a little sw where he had done well. Marked a lot of fish right off the bat but couldn't get anything to go. Oh, he caught all of his on spoons the day before and I was using mostly flashers. So I started this morning with all spoons. Had a buddy too so it was nice being able to run six lines. Had a king hit on a Moonshine Bad Toad on the wire slide diver, set on 1.5 and out about 37. I could mark it on my FF and it was only about 28-30' down. Lost that one at the boat. Eventually put a few flashers down and got a nice king on 200' weighted steel, with a DW Kevin's GF and Salmon Candy vegan rig (Mercy UV). We only fished until about 9:30. A lot more people bringing in fish on the 15th. But the boats were really scattered all morning. There were zero concentration of boats anywhere. Some were right in the shallows like spring brown fishing, some at the hole, point, and out at several hundred feet. The DNR weighed my king and took scale samples. It was 23.8 and 39" long. So it qualifies for master angler. Lol. Anyway, I expect the fishing to just keep getting better from here. Tight lines! Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  25. Thanks for the report. What a crazy thing to happen. I usually replace my hooks with better quality ones, but never gave a thought to the rings. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
