Nice eaters. Glad you made it through safe. I've had that experience a few times when I had a short sided 18'. I am not fond of the boat using colors or work lights that are so bright it ruins my night vision. There are a couple of charters out of Frankfort that do that and it makes it hard to see. I have taken to turning my headlamp on bright and shine back at them, but their work lights are so bright, I don't think it bothers them. I think the spotlight needs to go back in my boat when the salmon fishing kicks in gear. I wish there was some enforcement about using only running lights in the harbor and channel. Good luck fishing! Prime time is almost here. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -

Thanks jdh, great report. I was just looking at the Grand Haven area. Is the municipal launch by Harbor Island the place to go down there? Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -

Set up lines in Betsie bay and trolled out. Mainly fished straight out in 30-60 fow most of the morning. Picked up a 13.5 pound lake trout on a Salmon Candy brown edge flasher with blue fly. Had a second hit on that combo, which was on a 150' weighted steel setup at around 2 mph. The second fish was a screamer. Took the board to the back of the boat fast. Fought it for 3-4 minutes and suddenly it was gone. I haven't heard of any kings near Frankfort yet, but it sure acted like one. Maybe a large coho? I don't know. Water temp here was a lot warmer than Ludington. 42.5- 44.3 most of the morning. Pulled lines around 10 and headed for breakfast at the Lighthouse Cafe. Tight lines. Ludington 4/28/23

Got a late start as I didn't really want to go out of an unfamiliar port in the dark. Tried trolling along the shallows North of there for the first hour and a half, using natural color scatter raps and other body baits. Tried a couple spoons too to no avail. Eventually trolled into 40-50 fow, and no hits or marks on the screen. Used one rigger line and two planner boards with various lead and weighted steel lines. Tried some short dodgers and peanut flies, 8" flasher and fly. Nothing. Eventually pulled lines and ran out the the drop-off near the point north of Ludington. Ran some gear there for about 45 minutes and again, no marks or anything. It was an east wind and the water temp seemed to be 41 - 42 most everywhere I went. There were work boats dredging the harbor and a freighter came in at one point, so really couldn't fish that. I did like the port and it's just over an hour from my home, so I would go back when I hear it picks up. The guy at the tackle store said he heard a few guys have got Kings already. But it sounds like the browns and coho are slowing down. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App-

Braid Dipsey vs Steel
Rockin' Randy replied to dan agnello's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
I did the same exact thing Dan. Set one rod up with steel to try it three years ago. By the end of three times out I was sold. I do a thing though, so whether newby or my experienced forgetful self, I don't have to worry about spool problems. That thing is called a slide diver. I get the kit to make them magnum with heavier weight. Then about 20-30 yards of 25# mono for the slide, and 20-25# test floral for the 4' leader. My philosophy is the steel never has a chance to birdsnest, because the mono wraps it tight and the mono also acts to give stretch during the fight. I still use a short snubber at diver. Tried without, and went back to the snubber. A short one. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -

Yeah Dan, I'm still on their free account. Hit the three bars top left. Choose sign in. And then create account on the sign in page. I can't say what happens after that, but I am pretty sure you should be able to make a free account and ask your questions. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -

I think they have a free membership too. I'll check to make sure. I think there is an option to pay and be in the admiral's club or something. And there is benefits to that. But I don't pay. Unless they changed it. Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -
Honda OB Overheating

I have no idea Dan, but try posting your question on "The Hull Truth" forum in the appropriate section. When ever I have specific boat or motor issues, I find it a great resource because they have so many active members, and both salt and fresh water guys. You may have to set up a user name to post a question, or you could try and search as you can read stuff already on there without joining. I did a little search, and there were some Honda overheating questions. Maybe something will help. Good luck! Sent from my moto z4 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -
