  1. Good job guys, I lived on Swan Lake for a few years and there is good ice fishing there. One Sunday afternoon I watched a 42 inch pike carried off of Swan Lake. Not to take a fisherman's word, I measured it myself.
  2. I have always wanted to try fishing for whitefish too, so thanks for the info. I'll have some time next week so may give it a shot.
  3. Mike, Let me know If the Stinger Killer Blue Dolphin does go into production. I would want a couple more. Clyde
  4. My best spoon this year by far was the Nitro Area 51. It took fish at various levels throughout the season. Another favorite was the stinger killer that looked a lot like Mikes killer dolphin but was blue and yellow. I haven't found the name of it. It was one given out at the Stinger tournament.
  5. Jarod, Congrats on not getting skunked. Maybe we can get out just one more time yet this season. . . Saturday is looking like a possiblity. Good luck.
  6. Thanks Jarod, That late bite is coming, just keep saying, that late bite is coming. Good job on the 3-3.
  7. Captain Ron, Thanks so much for your reports thru the summer. They have been of great assistance to neophytes like myself. I still hope to get out at least one more time. I hope this weather brings some cold water in toward shore soon.
  8. Hi Jim, Thanks for the report. I was also out washing lures with you Sunday night. I finally caught a nice steelhead on 5 colors in 85 feet. I didn't lose any or have any knock offs. It ended up being my worst trip since May, but it beats working!
  9. Thanks for the report Randy. WTG. I really thought they might be a little closer to shore today.
  10. Nice job Mike, I took one look at the combat zone on Saturday out of Muskegon and went out to 75 fow. We went four for five taking three of the four on either glo watermelon or watermelon stingrays. The extra fish we would have caught in the combat zone didn't seem worth it to me. Nice to hear that you didn't have any problems in the traffic.

    EZ Fish Chowder

Thanks Frank, I will definately try that. I have a lot of salmon from this summer and wondering what I can do with it all. I love soup and stews. Usually I make a couple batches of whitefish stew in the winter so I hope to get a couple of good salmon stew recipes.
  12. WTG Thanks for the report.
  13. Great job!! It's always a pleasure to see kids who have discovered the joy of a screamin reel.
  14. Jim, Thanks for the report. I enjoy hearing that good fishing in August does not require being a clown in shallow water circus.
  15. Nice Job! What could be better than a cooler full of salmon AND perch?
  16. Great question. This is my first experience fishing in the busy season too, so I am interested in reading the responses. I figured everything on riggers or on planers close to the boat. Leads probably need to be short as well, but I am just guessing. Clyde
  17. WoW! Great video. What a great deer to take a photo of. Please post the 8 mgpixel you get of him later this summer!

    grilled salmon

You guys have to try this. heat butter until it separates with the white stuff on top. Scoop that off and throw away. Take this clarified butter and baste it on a whole filet with skin on. Put on grill with skin side down. Let the grill take its time to cook the fish. Baste a couple of times as it cooks. The last time you open the grill, crumble a light covering of brown sugar over the fish. Remove the fish from the grill when the brown sugar has melted. Don't over baste the fish with butter because it will run off and flame up. Let me know how you like it.
  19. Nailer, Thanks for the question. I have wondered about that too.
  20. WTG Mike, Thanks as always for your detailed report. Clyde
  21. Jason, Thanks for the report. I wasn't able to participate as planned, but am glad to hear you had a blast. What kind of snubber were you using that broke?
  22. Good job. Thanks for the report on the nets. We set lines by 6 am in 80 fow on Friday the 4th. We got 4 for 4 with three coming on the rigger with the echip flasher. One 3-4 year old king, and one 6 pound king came on the echip and green fireball. The large king came 42 feet down in 100 fow. The smaller one was 60 feet down in 120. We also got a large laker on the echip and a green hypnotist 45 feet down in 135. The only other fish was a shaker on 5 colors with a 4 oz dive bomb in 135. We were tied up for more than a half hour when a holiday fisherman's wife decided she could drive 60 feet across our stern. Despite my attempts to wave them off, she thought it would be ok. Of course we watched other boats bringing in fish as we worked to untangle 2 half cores from their dipsey. I was kind, but briefly attempted to educate them to the lengths of lead core. Clyde
  23. 0 for 0 and everybody back safe is a fine day of fishing. I hope your buddies experience doesn't deter him from going out on the big lake with you in the future. Clyde
  24. Good job Terry! Good luck on Saturday.
  25. What a privilege you have Mike. The pictures of your kids fishing are always priceless.
