I splashed my boat saturday and now they are calling for 20's at the end of the week. This being my first I/O, even though it is a closed loop system, I am worried about the impending cold. Should I be worried or take precautions to keep the motor from freezing?
-
yeah, I sold the nymph last fall. I am dying to get this boat wet. I have been stuck in maryland for the last month. Maybe this week though! I am hoping to make the brown blast if possible!

The Sara-E is a 1989 Crestliner Sabre 245GL Hardtop. She is powered by a 3.7lx mercruiser and a 9.9 four stroke Mercury. She is riggged with a LCX-27c, Raymarine 435 and a Raymarine VHF. She also has an old school ultranav loran C system. I put a pair of Vector downriggers over the winter. I also rigged her with 10 pursuit rod holders. I will run this boat mostly on Lake Erie with occasional trips to Michigan and Ontario.

Well I decided to give ol' Sanilac a try today. My wife was gracious enought o share her Easter chasing the fish. I told her on the way over that fishing Huron was like dating a nun. If I got a couple great...if I did'nt, what did I expect. Here goes the report... We dropped the boat in at 9:00 am and rolled out to 25- 30 FOW. I put a spread of 2 downriggers and 2 lines off of my new homemade boards. We trolled North for a while and got nary a bite. I decided I had enough of bucking the waves so we turned south. As soon as I got even with the port we had a release on a Greasy Chicken Wing standard streak, but no one was home. We continued our troll south and got a little close to those shoals. I was freaking out because the bottom came up from 18 fow to 9.5 fow really quick. I ram back and raised my downriggers to 6 feet and whammo we were hooked up. It turned out to be an ultra healthy 10 pound King. He ate a Magnum blue berry muffin streak. I thought someone told me there were no kings left in Huron? I lost a screamer on on the same blueberry muffin. I could barely get the rod out of the holder. I had it on for about five minutes but my line parted. It was the strongest fish I have had hooked on the great lakes. It pulled 250 feet on the strike. While I am un- messing myself up my board rod went off. It turned out to be a 4 pound tasty coho that drilled a orange body/ black head bomber. Here is a pic of the silver today... We also caught two greasers. Total count was 4 for 7. Here was what was in there bellies.. I would love to see Huron come back on!

August is just as good...July is our first crack at them. I started catching them 3rd week of June and went through September. Give me a shout and I will show you around.
-
July either first three or last three. Hot for steelies and walleye.

If you need help let me know. I found that the depth of the trailer in the water makes a huge difference in the straightness. too deep and she goes on crooked. too shallow and she is a mutha to pull on. You will find the right technique! You want to buddy up this weekend?
-
Awesome Post!! I agree with Spoonfed, I also duckhunt and the constant in and out really helps you get proficient!! I used to run one of thos big boats (proline 26 walkaround)...that thing was a booger at the ramp coming out! My little boats are a breeze.

funny you should say that...I am wanting to drag my boat over there for the easter holiday to catch a few salmonoids...got any advice? where to launch or stay? is the timing 4/15/06 too early?
-
we burnt them up pretty hard for a couple of newbies...my log says somewhere around 175 for the season up to 13 pounds. We also caught a couple of Lake erie Kings. Where ya from in Ontario?

I live in Fenton and I work in Ypsi.

I got addicted to Salmon/Trout fishing last year. That in itself is not a problem...the drain on my checkbook is. I would fish EVERY day if my budget allowed me to. Does anyone else have a similar issue? Want to start a thread for combining forces? Sharing expenses? starting a few friendships? I will go on record and say I am available every fishable weekend except 5/13/06 for the entire season. I can run my boat or crew on others. I want to learn and catch fish. My forte is erie steelhead and walleye. I had a decent first year on the salmon last year. Let's go fishing people!!
-
Who fishes them? I got slightly addicted to that fishery last summer...
-
How shallow do you run your dodger/fly combos on the riggers? Also, I want to boat a brown real bad...any SURE FIRE baits or tactics you can offer?
-
I ran big boards all last year, but I want to run some inlines. I bought 4 TX22 church boards, but I have yet to catch a fish with them. I caught a few fish Sunday only after I switched to my ig boards. Here are my questions... 1. Do you set your boards to re;ease on the hit? 2. When running lead core do you set it to release? 3. how long of a lead do you run for body baits? 4. should your boards be hopping or running flat like big boards? Thanks in advance

Orange jointed fasttrack chrome and blue shadrap lost the steelie on a green howie peanut behind a 00 red dodger Coot is quick on the draw.

Awesome eating fish. Some folks call it a burbot or eelpout.

Spoonfed is what it said on the back...I really love that boat!

I run a 19.5 sea nymph with a 90hp Evinrude (1989). I burned right at 180 gallons of fuel for 32 trips. She is a sipper!
