  1. We were a little South. 2 oz bouncers off the boards and 3 oz bouncers off the sides. If you are closer to Linwood check and see how they are doing. The only reason I fish Au Gres is it's my closest port. I run all over the bay.
  2. The over the hill gang put it to some eyes this morning. 33-41 FOW. Bouncers and meat with every flavor taking fish. 1.4 MPH. Chartreuse, Glows, Purple, and Red. We generally pull 12 lines but today we couldn't keep even 10 in the water. We must have threw back 15 future keepers and kept these. Some fish are hitting aggressively but most are not. You have to be on your toes. I'm looking for a another regular fishing partner that is willing to fish 3-4 days a week. We trolled S and picked up a little over half a limit and turned around and got the rest. We would have ended with bigger fish but the older gent in the middle got us off track by a 1/2 a mile on the return trip. He does his best and is always welcome.
  3. ^5s to dad and son.
  4. GJ in rough conditions. I looked at yesterdays forecast and decided to wait. I'll probably go out tomorrow.
  5. GJ Jimmy. The June Lull is upon us with the Salmon. It's time to lighten up and start chasing eyes for a month.
  6. Capt. Matt, Thank for post the FANTASTIC video.
  7. Mike, Thanks for the report. This years weather continues to be unusual. I hope it settles into a W SW pattern. Keep up the good work.
  8. Steve, I'm assuming you are referring to the Steeples N. of the Big Charity Island in Saginaw Bay. About any trolling method will work. I have used bouncers and harnesses as well as cranks in that area. The Steeples offer some nice structure in the relatively flat Saginaw Bay. Be careful if you go out there. It's a long haul from any port.
  9. The over the hill gang strikes again. I had new crew member today so we had to show him a good time. Three man limit with about 10 throw backs. A lot of nice fish in the mix. Bouncers and meat in 31-34 FOW. Best speed about 1.4 MPH. Everything was going. We ran purple, glows, Chartreuse, Fire Tiger, and Chrome and red. We pulled 9 lines with 3 oz over the sides and 2 oz off the boards.
  10. Ya know I hardly ever fish weekends let alone a holiday weekend. The twice a year boaters and fishermen can drive a sane person over the edge. Just think what that experience would do to someone like me.
  11. That doggone Scotty is always looking for an edge. Hmmmmmm!! Target the fish with warts.
  12. Tony, The reason I went to the same type system was a crew member boxed a fish 1/4 of an inch short a few years ago. I was checked that day and given a warning. I put the no brainer system into effect. Anyone that fishes with me knows that the fish has to stretch the width of the cutting board or it goes back. The DNR officer was kind enough to give a warning and he said, "Next time you will lose some equipment". I just made it as easy as possible for checking a fish without looking at numbers etc. Some of the over the hill gang can't see too well. I have people around 80 yo fishing with me. I actually had one gentleman that was over 90 and he did better than a lot of younger men.
  13. GJ and thanks for the report Steve. A warm welcome to the site.
  14. Those growths have been quite common for years. I first saw them back in the 80s. It has nothing to do with injuries. The warts are of no concern to fishermen who consume the fish. Skin the fish and the growths are gone. A link from DNR. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_52259_10950-26964--,00.html
  15. I have been using a 15X20 inch cutting board that I have on the engine cover. I have a short piece of thin 3 inch aluminum angle that one leg goes under the board and the other leg sticks up. I bump the fishes nose against the aluminum angle and pinch the tail together. If the fish is equal or greater length than the board they are legal. This makes quick work of measuring fish and even poor sighted old guys can read it.
