  1. Usually perch fishing on the Bay does get better in the Fall. The only problem is the weather. The Fall weather patterns tend to be more unstable. I knew the Bay would have a excellent year for perch by the number and size of perch we were taking trolling. Perch fishing is slightly different from the past. Since the changes in water clarity and other factors it's more of a finesse game than what it was decades ago. I may try and get out a time or two. I fish real hard between mid May and early August so after a few weeks of resting up it's time for me to hit all the chores I have been neglecting.
  2. Brian, A warm
  3. Nick, A warm
  4. Al, A warm welcome to the GLF site. We have a lot in common with our career choice.
  5. Don't worry about washing the boat, wash your other gear and hands. The fish don't mind a lil petrol smell even on the lures. It may be the perfume you are splashing on. There are a number of variables in any kind of fishing. If you get one or two of them off just a bit it just will not happen. I think boat control and speed are the two most important factors that a lot of fishermen don't zero in on. A tenth of a MPH sometimes can make the difference. Find the speed and never settle for close enough. A lot of little things can add up.
  6. Dave, It's good to have you here.
  7. A warm welcome Dave.
  8. I'm glad we were able to fish together this year. That last trip was a little bumpy but the eyes and perch cooperated. I got 2# of skinned filets out of those 11 bonus perch. Gotta Luv what we have going in our backyards.
  9. Nice work Eric. I did edit the date on your report. You were only a month off.
  10. Ralph, You'll get their attention here. I'd go after some of those yellow bellies but mom won't let me bring anymore fish home.
  11. I looked a long time also. I actually owned two Islanders that I bought a couple of weeks apart. Long story!!!!!!!! I had to do a lot of work to the rigging on mine. The only thing decent on mine when I bought it was the paint and the name. The price was right and I fished it as is the first year and did a`lot of work the following two Winters. The best thing I did was fabricate a pair of four rod trees for the sides. The trees make a tremendous difference running boards.
  12. A real hog for sure. I mean REEL Hog. Congrats to the young man and to the crew for making it happen.
  13. I don't fish that area a lot (2 or 3 times a year) because there are a ton of fish in closer most of the time. I usually just troll between them and let the graph tell me how deep to fish. No mater where I fish I always start with a few outside lines high. I usually run a 12 rod spread and the fish tell me what and how deep. The bottom in that area is rocky so if your targeting the bottom have some extra gear along.
  14. There are some hazards around the Charity Islands. Be careful. The steeples area can be tricky. It's easy to hang gear up in that area. A good chartplotter is a must. I fished the area earlier this year and did get some decent eyes. I fish the bay as much or more than most. I live between Au Gres and Tawas and I'm retired.
  15. Pat, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I own an older Starcraft Islander 22 with a hardtop. You may want to search my pics for rigging ideas.
  16. Ken, Way to figure it out and put it to them.
