Saginaw Bay 6/8/2013 keeps on giving.
Priority1 replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
I recently put in a spring loaded float needle to correct a idle issue. I did readjust the float and feel it will perform much better now. Man I had a boat load of problems this year. I'm just glad it was all mechanical stuff that I could deal with. I just want everything to be all that it can be. -

Alan, GJ and thanks for the report. Manistee is my closest Lk MI port and one of my favorites. -
There is also a city campground and a private one.

Jeremy, If you want to hook on with me you'd be welcome. I fish out of AuGres a lot. Launch is OK fish are all over the place. Our best was 28-32 FOW. A warm welcome to the site.

Just N Time (Capt. Mike Keith.) and Ron stopped for a brew and some smoked fish Fri eve. I wanted to do a second shakedown so I invited them to fish with me Sat. I thoroughly enjoy all my friends from the udder side (Lake MI). The boat ran great at idle and up to 2000 rpm. I still have carburetor issue and need to adjust the float. The boat ran fine at home but under load it would falter as the throttle slowly opened. We didn't need to go far from port and fished 28-32 FOW with BB and meat. Glow Chartreuse, was our best producer. One line up high early but down and dirty was the ticket. Our biggest fish came on a homemade jumbo purple sickle blade made from a plastic supermarket box and some prism tape. Tom T. also joined us to skillfully help handle the back of the boat. We searched a bit but when we found the fish we kept pounding them. At one point I called fishon 5 times within two minutes. The port side had only one line in the water. Speed was 1.5 with a change-up pitch down to 1.2 to trigger some of the lethargic keepers. It was light bite all the way. Not many aggressive strikes except the little guys. We boated 22 legal fish and kept 20. Of course we ran our 12 rod spread. We probably caught a dozen future fish along with a couple of kitty cats. All in all it was a beautiful day to spend on the water with good friends. Thanks goes to Tom, Mike, and Ron. I'm heading to the garage to adjust the carb float and test fire it on the drive. Also a big THANKS to Chummer for the invitation to fish with him and his wife. I wasn't on site much lately because of my problems. We do need to get on the same boat again soon. Another big THANKS to FishHawk for allowing this grumpy old guy aboard Tue and Wed. for a 3 man limit and a 4 man limit.

The day started just fine. I set down near some boats and didn't like what the sonar wasn't showing. I proceeded to a spot not far away and saw what I wanted on the sonar. Big John B was along for his help and expertise. We put the first eye in the box before we were set up. I was letting the the board out and it never made it into the pattern. Three more quick fish on the down rods without boards when we decided to turn and go back through them. The engine stalled and we got it back running. It stalled again and we were dead in the water for about 2 hrs. I did a plug change a few days earlier and again on the pond. The new plugs were fouled with some hard carbon. After the plug change it started and ran fine but was running a little hot. No problem at home overheating. I pulled the dog house forward and removed the T.Stat. The T. Stat was in the open position. We decided to call it a day and ran in fine only slightly on the cool side without the Stat. I need to run out the old fuel and I think it will be OK. I'll replace the T Stat later today. So we boated 4 eyes between 16.5 and 18 inches to get the skunk off Priority 1 for the season. We also threw back two short ones so our future is bright. In spite of the problems I consider it a great shakedown. We boated some fish and made it in under our own power. Thanks to my friends on the pond with their offers to help if needed. I think after this season I'm going to lay the boat up with the fuel gauge favoring empty. I just hate this darn fuel we are forced to use. It will run so so in a FI engine but it's a challenge with a carburetor engine. I almost forgot BB and meat on the bottom. A glow chartreuse and a faint lime green and nickel blades were good. 28-29 FOW.

Nick, If you have some time after work and want to come over and fish you are always welcome. How's the shoulder doing? GL and hope you get your own rig out soon. I hear you on the obligations. Sometimes Priority1 is Priority 10.

Clint, A warm I'll bet the salmon is good with a little cheese.

It's tough fishing alone. I have done it but quickly came to the conclusion it's more fun and safer by far with someone else onboard. I will never fish alone again.
-
Tom, We need to make it a point to get on the same boat. Adam, Get on over here and fish again. I had a blast last time.

Ron, A warm It's good to have another Huron fisherman.

I have been a little slow out of the gate this year but hope to catch up fast. I'm splashing Priority1 for the first time tomorrow. I had a ton of unexpected things that had to be dealt with this Spring. I sure don't move like I did 20 years ago. I may have to fish later into the Fall this year to make up for the slow start.
