New TN fisherman-learning trolling

A warm and the max to you Max. We used to keep an old beat up cannon ball that we'd keep bouncing the bottom with. We wouldn't have a line hooked to it. Just slightly above it, on different riggers, we'd run everything from peanuts, spin n glows, wobble glows, all behind chrome dodgers, ford fenders, or cow bells. Lakers like it a little on the trashy side. They also usually like it slower than salmon. Good Luck and tight lines always. -

Mike T. and I made two new friends today. Caden S. and Bob S. joined us some fun fishing on the Saginaw Bay. Caden is 10 yo and reeled most of our 20 fish in. Caden also promised to take me fishing in about 15 years. Gotta love what we have going in our back yards. There is nothing I'd rather do than fish with a kid. We couldn't keep lines in the water so everything was working. Off course it was all BB and meat with my KISS method. I truly believe that you could set up just about anywhere and catch fish. Please don't crowd in on other boats, it's not necessary. Thanks Mike, Bob, and Caden for joining me on Priority1.

John V aka as Dutch and his two grandsons Ty and Zach joined Tom T. and I for fun and games on the bay. 24-33 FOW pulling bouncers and meat doing 1.3-1.7 MPH. A big purple homemade smile blade took the most fish with everything producing some. I was a little concerned having Dutch onboard again after we shorted him a fish last trip. Tough ole Dutch layed it back just a touch because the grandkids were with him. We managed a 25 fish box with a bonus perch and farmed 4 legal eyes. I sure am glad Dutch didn't get POed like the last time. Zach and Ty reeled in most of these fish and had a great time doing so. Dutch gets soft when the grand kids are with him, but don't tell him I said so.

A friend of mine lost a Large White Trolling Bag off AuGres. It seems someone said something to me about finding one or I read one was found. This was about a week or so ago. If you found one please PM or email me and I'll put you in touch with it's owner. Thanks

They also make a paint on product. I think it's called liquid tape. It's available in the Auto Electrical area of Walmart. I haven't used it on any cable yet but I think it would work OK. It sure is handy sealing up electrical connection on the boat. One plus about the paint on stuff you don't have to have an open end to slide it on. A drawback would be the time it takes to cure.

Two new members for the Over The Hill Gang. Allan S, Larry O, Marty, and I toughed it out for a 4 man limit. Big Purple homemade Smile blade was our best producers. We had Chartreuse, Glow, Orange, that also took some fish. 30-35 FOW BB and harness suspended and deep @ 1.5 MP. The fish were lethargic and somewhat fussy. Rough conditions kept me on the helm a lot. Trolling with and into 3s and 4s is not an easy job. I broke off two boards, one was dropped overboard, and another shook loose. We chased down and recovered 4 boards. I seldom chase that many in a whole season of fishing and I fish a lot. It would have been an extremely costly trip had we not been able to get the boards back. My big screen Toughbook Computer GPS Chartploter led us right back to everyone of them. The fish were all full of Mayflies and you had to be on top of your game to even notice their lethargic hits. By the time the trip ended the team was starting to click. Running 10-12 lines is a big learning experience for guys that never did it before. They would all be welcome back and would be at ease with the set up the next trip.

Check your local boat canvas place. They may have scraps that they can make bags out of. Harley in Tawas City made mine.

Looking forward to another trip with you and your grandsons. I know there must have been some of gramps influence in those kid's upbringing. I'll never forget Ty reeling in some steel, off Tawas, as Zach caught some ZZZZZZs in the jump seat. Those kids are our future and our future is bright. -

Jason, I first met you and your wife at the Pt AuGres campground. We have to get on the same boat again. I'll never forget my smart A$$ words towards you, "Cant you control that #$%@ fish". Who would have thought a King on a BB and harness. I also have fond memories of you coming up to do an evening run on your boat. Even though I was tuckered out, I'd help you set up and then kick back and enjoy the ride. The older you get the more important the memories become. At some point the memories will be all that's left, so make sure there are a bunch of good ones. -

Kevin, I'll never forget the trip you were on board. Even Tom mentions that trip every now and then. Hosting a trip is made easy when the guests are willing to adapt and fish just slightly different like I usually do. The fish don't know when we break traditional rules. They can't read the books. In fact I think the books sometime over complicate things. With me it's the K.I.S.S. method all the way. Maybe it's because I resemble the last S in the method. "Laugh at yourself and the world laughs with you."
