  1. GJ Nothing better than a meal of those yellow bellies.
  2. I don't see why you couldn't apply it to both sides. I have used it on the traditional canvas and saturated it with Thompson's.
  3. Welcome aboard Marty.
  4. Diawa Sealine LCs. I only have 2 of them that I bought as combos for $60 each. I wish I would have purchased more. I do have some Penns, Okumas, and some Diawas without counters. They all function well, but I like the Sealine LCs best.
  5. You mean you eat those fish. LMAO:lol: I do like to catch em. Fresh Walleye and Lake Perch have spoiled me. I voted for the Steelhead, but I do like them all grilled or smoked. Marinate them in Italian Dressing overnight and grill them.
  6. TYVM Jason for having this Grumpy Old Man onboard. We do need that Walleye chop, but those 3 and 4 ft waves were a bit much. You and Brian should have come over for that fish fry. I had seconds, and there is still fish in the refrigerator cooked and uncooked. I'm going to check the weather for tomorrow and maybe give it a whirl.
  7. Two of us limited again Tuesday on the Saginaw Bay. We had to work for them, but I love being out there. We picked up 5 Walleyes fairly fast, but when the wind and waves died the bite did also. We keep running the same program while trying different stuff, but nothing seems to do us better than the harnesses and meat. Fish for dinner again tonight.
  8. Thanks for the tip Dan. I have been using homemade bouncers the last 2 years. I use SS wire and put egg sinkers on it. I just bend the wire 90 degrees to keep the sinkers on. I like the SS because it doesn't stain the boat with rust. I seldom change weight but it's easy to do by bending the wire back straight and sliding another egg sinker on. I sometimes use multiple egg sinkers.
  9. A warm welcome to you Lucas.
  10. VN Cstar.
  11. Welcome aboard Ray. You will like it here. I fish Lk Huron and it's Saginaw Bay, with a few trips a yr over to Lake Michigan.
  12. Not sure about Jason, but I cheek every one of mine. It only takes 10 to 15 seconds a cheek. Thanks Mike for providing a great place to meet with fellow fishermen.
  13. It was great to meet you and your wife Jason. I'll be on the water tomorrow morning. 5 out of 7 days last week were spent fishing. Sat I fished with a couple of guys that I met on MS. That worked out well. They got to fish some different water, and we shared a few methods. TY for sharing your campfire for an hour.
  14. I was running 17 Trilene, but I got a deal on some 25# Ande. The 25# is doing the job. I don't think I would go any lighter than 15#
  15. GJ Mark. I would like to try that sometime.
  16. Indy, I will probably keep fishing the bay, but later in the month I'm going to start doing some Salmon trips over to Manistee or Ludington. I'm retired, and fished 5 out of 7 days last week. I haven't been out this week yet, so I'm running a little behind. Maybe we can get out and whack some Walleyes.
  17. Welcome Van. You will like it here. I'm glad to hear that you are doing so well on the Walleye. We are also doing fantastic on the Saginaw Bay Lake Huron.
  18. GJ Captain. I can't wait to do some Salmon Slamin.
  19. The 100 foot rule is a good rule of thumb, but different conditions can change things. I have taken kings on free sliders with the ball down 35 ft. The slider lure had to be in the prop wash. When it's rough I cut the 100 ft rule in half, with a min of 8 ft back. I also use the rule of thumb when selecting lures from my Mate box. I grab the lure closest to my thumb.
  20. GJ Billy. Wishin I was Salmon Slamin. I'm starting to get my gear ready now.
  21. Welcome aboard Cstar. You will like it here. I fish Lake Huron and it's Saginaw Bay as well as a few trips to Lake Michigan. I always wanted to fish Lake O. I fish from a 22 ft Starcraft Islander HT. We have been doing fantastic on Walleye so far this year.
  22. A warm welcome to you Red. You will like it here. If you are looking for a boat that is EZ to tow good on fuel and safe for big water Salmon Slamin, consider the 22 ft Starcraft Islander. I luv mine. I use 5 - 6 gal of fuel on a 4 to 5 hr fishing outing. I don't use a kicker.
  23. Another GR8 day on the bay Sat. 3 man limit, with the same program above. If you haven't fish the Saginaw Bay in awhile, you owe it to your self to give it a whirl. Dan, The inner inner bay is always hot early in the year, as you well know. I just hope we don't get too many extremely hot days like a couple of years ago. Indy, I wish you would have given me a shout on 68. I have two bags onboard and have never used one of them. Running against the waves and just drifting can git er done.
  24. Will that stuff catch fish?? Wishin I was Slamin Salmon.
  25. Another 3 man limit in 31-34 FOW. Chartreuse blades on harnesses did the damage. When we get a color out producing the others we switch everything to that color. I tie my own harnesses. and always have several of each color combination. We were using 2 oz of lead and putting the meat right in their face. We had 2 - 3 foot waves to start but then it calmed down. We took fish running with and against the waves. With the waves I was using a large trolling bag that the canvas place in Tawas made for me. Going into the waves I didn't need it, to maintain my 1.2 - 2.0 MPH. Driving a zigzag course (Like a Drunken Sailor), seems to do the trick. It speeds up one side and slows the other. This also tells me if I want to change my speed. The real thing was slightly better than the Gulp today. Fish for Supper again tonight. Going to try and get a crew for tomorrow, and do it again for the third straight day. Anyone want to fish the Sag Bay let me know. I'll make it PRIORITY1 to get you a seat on my boat.
