  1. VN Fish. I always wanted to fish Lake Ontario. Maybe one of these yrs I'll pull Priority1 East.
  2. Priority1

    PlumKrazy

Yes they are some GR8 Pics.
  3. I'm glad to hear that the power has been restored. We sure take a lot of things for granted. We had lost power during an Ice Storm in 76, and was down for 8 days.
  4. It's not fun being sick, but dayum with all that chum you should have done better than that. I may try Juan Moore trip to Lake MI this year. Can I have the Chummers phone#.
  5. That is going over and beyond the duties of a police officer. WTG MSP.
  6. LMAO. I have been looking for a crew like that all year. I think it helps the fishing with that chumming going on.
  7. Sea Mac and Long-Line both say that the hook change causes some difference in the spoon action. I'm wondering about some added weight to the Single hook. It wouldn't be too difficult to clamp on a split shot, or some lead foil. Next time out when the action slows I'm going to experiment with some trebles, single hooks, and single hooks with weight. I'll just dangle them over the side on a short rod. Has anyone tried this??? Any thoughts on the weighted single hook? I'm going to re-tie all my J plugs rigs this Winter and may just go with single hooks on them.
  8. I know this has been kicked around before, but I think it is worth mentioning again. I always change spoon hooks to 4/0 Singles on the standard size and 5/0 Singles on the Mags. The reason I do this is because of fewer lost fish after a solid hook up. I first noticed this a few yrs back when running squid behind a flasher. All my squids had single hooks, and most all my spoons had trebles. The Squids with single hooks never seemed to come unbuttoned, after a solid hook up. I believe that the large single hooks do have more bone piercing qualities, than the treble hooks. I feel that the trebles are more likely to catch some flesh, and during a run rip out. I still use trebles on my J Plugs. I'm not sure if Singles would work with them. Has anyone changed to Single Hooks on J Plugs??? Trebles are also more likely to catch an angler while removing hooks from a thrashing fish. Trebles are also more apt to get tangled in the net. Trebles don't store as well as single hooks in the spoon storage box. I know this subject will draw some support and some fire, but let's hear your thoughts on this subject.
  9. I have caught Kings with both the 8 inch and 11 inch Fish Catchers aka Hootchie Mamas, ahead of meat rigs. If I run the meat off a Dipsy I always use the 8 inch flasher, in it's max hole. When I run a meat rig off the rigger I will always use a middle rigger and most always use the 11 inch flasher in it's medium hole. Some say that the big flasher and meat rig draw fish to your spread. It does seem that the meat will produce when spoons and Js go dead. I have retied all my meat rigs. I have shortened them up to only 2 glow squid spaced about 10 inches up from the meat, 10 inches apart, and about 10 to 20 inches of line between the last squid and a swivel. If other stuff is going I seldom put out any meat. I switched to Gulp Cut bait this year. It's tougher, and will hang in there for several fish. I get the 11 inch long cut bait and cut it in half. 5-1/2 inches is plenty and it is cheaper than buying the 7 inch Gulp, per piece. In other words using the 11 inch Gulp you get twice as many cut pieces. When done fishing I return the Gulp cut bait to the package. With the Gulp you need a stiff wire to pierce the meat prior to running the toothpick through it. It's like leather. I have also used Salmon belly meat with some success. Has anyone else tried the belly meat???
  10. Your original post was OK. Sometimes threads tend to wander off course a touch. I always run the core all the way out. I just started using it, and the GR8 information provided here taught me to NEVA run it out partially. Does anyone besides CohoTroller use the TWILI Tips for core??? The Twili tips are inexpensive and may possibly be the answer to the wear problems related to running out only a portion of the core. The only other problem that I could see with doing this is attaching a planer board to the core.
  11. GJ R-Turn. Too bad the big one got off. We lost a big King yesterday @ Manistee. Another 6 feet and he would have been in the net.
  12. BAD BEAT THAT IS. My 2-1/2 day trip to Manistee was cut to one day. We fished Tuesday morning and had the engine missing at trolling speeds. Shut down and changed plugs on the pond and "Walla" a piece of cake. Many hrs of slow trolling for eyes takes it's toll on plugs. I'm going to start changing or cleaning them half way through the season. We did manage to boat some Kings but NOT the Limits we were hoping for. Well my new Alternator is defective and that caused some issues,(New one on the way). WHY ME:no: When heading out for the evening run my trim quit working. We did however boat some Kings, but with the alternator and now the trim problem, I wasn't focused on fishing. Once the boat was on the trailer and the outdrive trimmed up, it wouldn't go down. I could have put a jumper wire on it, but it's not easy to get at, and tough to do in the dark. What a PITA. I spent some of the day troubleshooting the trim problem. I traced it down to a broken wire in the Throttle Shift Lever that also contains the trim switch. It's a lot easier to find a bad component than a bad or broken wire. That is three trips to Lake MI this year with problems every time. I may give it another whirl next week. If the trip next week goes like this one, It will be my last trip across the state this yr. Oh!!! Labor Day Jeanice and I are walking the Mighty Mac. I'm putting some miles on this old body. She casually knows one of the Casino Hostesses in Brimley so she comped us a room for 2 nights, and also our meals. I'll let you know how free the room ends up being. I hope my luck on the Blackjack and Crap tables is better than my fishing trips to Lake Michigan. Brimley is right on Whiskey Bay, Lake Superior. I would take Priority1 with me, but I think that may put an end to our 41 years together. But on the other hand I would have more time to fix Priority1. I should change the boats name to THE OTHER WOMAN.
  13. Just 2 color and 8 color. I'm thinking of adding two 5 color setups. I may just turn the 8 color into a 5 color. I was thinking of using snap weights if the fish are a little deeper. With snap weights and 5 color core I would cut the length of line out behind the boat.
  14. Sounds delicious.
  15. TYVM I'll give this one a whirl.
  16. Tim is my first cousin. I guess that's why my nipples get hard when I walk into the hardware dept @ Sears. GRUNT GRUNT
  17. Well I did it this time. While straightening up my boat and gear this morning, I knelt on a small treble hook. A small tackle box spilled, and I though everything was picked up. One hook was through my bluejeans and into my knee. I cut off the hook leaving as much as possible sticking out of my jeans. I rolled up the pant leg. I made a looped piece of 80# Mono and slid it over what remained of the hook sticking out of my knee. I grabbed the hook with a pair of needle nose pliers on the outside of the mono loop, and made a twisting motion as if to remove it. I instructed my neighbor to jerk up on the mono when ever he was ready. I told him not to let me know when he was going to jerk it, and to jerk it with great force. Out popped the hook. I did this twice before for other people. The hook didn't hurt going in or coming out. This can save a day especially if you are in a remote area. If the whole hook is exposed just slide the heavy mono loop over the shank, and get it close to the bend in the hook. Press down firmly on the shank, and have someone jerk up on the mono loop. It helps to wrap a piece of cloth around the mono to prevent a line cut to the hand when jerking the hook out. That 80# mono loop went into my first aide kit on the boat. I hope I never have to use it again, especially on myself. I just had a tetanus shot a few months ago, and I applied some triple antibiotic cream to the slight wound. Hey!!! I'm leaving for Manistee after Midnight.
  18. Welcome Jim, It's people like you that make this site what it is.
  19. Thanks for the report Capt. Sometimes different circumstances lead to the same result. Love them Dipsys.
  20. WTG Let it B, Juan Moore Day and I'll B Salmon Slammin.
  21. GJ Skeiner, It makes you wonder when that line is going off the reel. I have never been spooled yet but came darn close.
  22. Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to be in Manistee Tue-Thurs. I'm watching the weather reports.
