  1. Well it sounds like they rectified the problem with the snap, instead of the welded ring. I guess if anyone has the older ones with the welded ring it may be a good idea to replace them with some HD snaps. Better to do the ounce of prevention, than loose a pound of hardware. I think we all have enough hardware on the bottom of the big ponds to stock a tackle shop.
  2. The Silver One lives up to it's name. Nice pics and fish Joe.
  3. GJ Skeiner. By the looks of that fish it is almost over. I'm already getting stuff ready for next year. Wishin I was Salmon Slammin.
  4. I have a FISHING HOT SPOTS map that shows this information. Mine is an old one of the Saginaw Bay. Maybe you could get one for the different areas of Lake MI. Mine shows R=Rock, S=Sand, G=Gravel, M=Muck, C=Clay.
  5. The multi set rod holders from BigJon would be my choice. You can raise and lower them one handed, and the price is right. I bought 4 of them last Winter. I was able to get some factory seconds at a good price. Talk with John Williams to see if he has any available. They are more than adequate for Dipsy use. http://www.bigjon.com/store/list.asp?SubTypeID=3&ProductID=55
  6. GJ Tim on the Steelheads and King. Hang in there and get some of those perch. Oh!!!! By the way, you know I love them hardtops.
  7. Sorry I forgot the pic. I was thinking of Jack. Here it is.
  8. This is an AuGres Sunset. I didn't know it when I took the pic, but it would be my brothers last walleye trip. He fished with me on a trip to Manistee a few weeks after this pic was taken. He was one of the best helmsman you could have when salmon fishing, and good on the net also. R.I.P BIG JACK.
  9. When the cannonballs start skipping on the surface slow it down a tad.
  10. Green glow squid behind a white or green glow hootchie mama has done well for me. I most always run that set up off the Dipsys, but I have had success with them off the riggers also. I have some 4-1/2 and 6-1/2 inch squid I bought off from eBay for about a buck each unrigged including the shipping. I rig the smaller ones with one 04 single hook, and the bigger ones with two 05s. I run these 14 to 18 inches behind a 8 inch flasher or 24 to 30 inches behind a 11 inch flasher. At times these will out produce anything else. I do like the flashers better than dodgers, because the flashers work well at most any speed. With dodgers you have to slow down to the 2MPH range or they just don't run right.
  11. WTG Shu. Nothing like a meal of those yellow bellies.
  12. WTG Doug. I have to start chasing some of those yellow bellies over here.
  13. Just because they shut off their services doesn't mean the world stops. I don't see how they could require a license, if they were not available to provide it. Of course every bait shop in the state sells licenses, but they may require that the State's Site be up and running. If you do get busted, just call Lee Free.
  14. Happy Birthday Rich.
  15. I just may buy a 10-12 # turkey and slow smoke it on my gas grill. I have a 3 burner grill, so I'll light one of the end burners on low, and put the bird on the other side. I have smoked other stuff (Fish, Sausage, and ribs). I use a old tin can cut down to form a handle to hold the wood chips. Even in the Summer I can hold the temp as low as 160-175 degrees. I should be able to get even lower this time of yr. Probably should take it up over 200 for awhile anyways. I think you need 180 degrees on a meat thermometer to be safe with poultry. Have you noticed how smoked fish taste better after a day or two in the refrigerator? I imagine smoked turkey would be fantastic served cold the next day. Probably will be lucky if any last till the next day.
  16. Cool Pic. One of my uncles fished Drummond Island every Spring. He's gone now, but he lives on in my mind. I never fished Drummond but maybe someday I will.
  17. It sounds like the trip of a lifetime. I'm glad you were there with your dad.
  18. Happy Birthday Tim.
  19. It does seem like we pull up less Zebras on our fishing lures, and anchor. I also noticed less Zebras washing up on the beaches. A few years back if anything bumped bottom, we would have clusters of zebras hanging on to it.
  20. D, If you harma me I'll harma you.
  21. Here is the link to Cazz's thread on SWRs:) http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3510&highlight=Secret+Weapon
  22. SWR stands for Secret Weapon Rig. SHHHHHHHH. It's 2 colors of leadcore run off your lowest downrigger. I'll dig up Cazz's thread on this subject and post the link below.
