GL to all the Deer Hunters. I got away from deer hunting 9 years ago, when I sold my place in St. Charles. When I walked out the basement door I was hunting. I do miss it but it would be tough for me to hunt any other way.

question on finding deer the next day
Priority1 replied to Satisfaxion_Gauranteed's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm glad he found the deer. -
I have run Spin Doctors and Fish Catchers up to 3.5 MPH. Dodgers have a side to side swaying motion at around 1.5 to 2.2 MPH. Dodgers will spin out at any speeds much above 2 MPH.. We run slow with dodgers in the past and did well with them. The stock dodger can be a good tool if you want to run slow for L.T. to fill a tournament ticket. Salmon will slam them also. What I'm attempting to do is, tweak the dodgers to run decent at 2.5 MPH and above.

Welcome to the site Kevin. Nice catch. -
Jason, If you fell down you could have ended up in the morgue. There are too many incidents where pit bulls have mauled or killed kids. I was thinking about getting a concealed weapons permit just for such an occasion. I do a lot of bike riding. Most places have leash laws, but laws don't help a bit when a pit bull is on the attack.

I just ran across this Wolverine Flodger. It's supposed to be a cross between a flasher and a Dodger. When reading the fine tuning instructions, it said that the middle section must remain flat. This Flodger looks just like a Dodger with the ends bent sharply in the direction of the cup. The point of this thread is NOT to make you run out and buy Dodgers or Flodgers. Every year there is a ton of new products to attract fisherman, and fish. I have a quite a few Dodgers that seldom get washed because of their inability to run decent at much over 2 MPH. What I intend to do is try bending some of my Dodgers to resemble the Flodger. If I can utilize my Dodgers @ higher Salmon speeds, I'll have them in my spread and see what happens. The recommended leader length is 16 - 22 inches behind a 8 inch Flodger. The manufacturer states that these will run at slooooooow L.T. speeds or fast Salmon speeds. The next trip out, I'll drag a few modified Dodgers and see how they handle the different speeds. I may super glow one side of some of my older beat up dodgers over the Winter. I was going to buy a few more spinnies but I think I'll try and utilize what I have. I hope this information helps some of you.

block manufacturer mercruiser Alpha 1
Priority1 replied to boomerang's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
The 3 liter Mercruiser is most definitely a GM block. That block has been used for over 20 years. I have a 1986 version of it in my boat. It's a tough engine. -
I have just finished reading (Keating on Kings). This was a very good read, with tons of information. I couldn't help but notice that Five of his top ten Dodgers or Flashers and Fly combos involved the Luhr Jensen Dodger. That's right, Five out of Ten. I slow down and run a Dodger once in awhile, but have drifted more towards the plastic flashers. Before the plastic flashers we used to slow down and run a couple of Dodger Squid, Dodger Fly combos in our spread with great success. If I'm on fish, I wouldn't mind slowing down and running a dodger. Even at slow speeds the dodgers do roll once in awhile. When searching I like to run faster and cover more water. I have read in some forum, where the front of the Dodger can be bent to keep them from spinning out at higher salmon speeds, thus keeping the same swaying dodger motion. I was wondering if anyone has experimented with bending the dodgers to make them more speed tolerant? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Spin Doctors or Fish catchers mostly in the 8 inch size off the Dipsys with a squid or fly. Once in awhile I'll run the same off one or two riggers. I never run two flashers on adjacent riggers.

Steelhead Smash!
Priority1 replied to Storm Warning II's topic in Pennsylvania Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
We had a quad going off Manistee in 06 with only two of us onboard. We only managed to get two of them, but went on to limit, around sunup. What a fire drill. Those are the fishing memories that last a lifetime. -
Mike, The gales of Nov. are keeping my A$$ in the house.

WTG SW. Love it when a plan comes together. -
Mike is right about the solvent qualities of WD40. I have used it as a starting fluid before, so I doubt that the carburetor application would harm the engine. Now the spark plug hole cylinder application may be a different horse. Maybe a shot of motor oil into the cylinders would be better. Maybe I should just pick up some fogging oil. My old 4 cyl Chevy seems to be bulletproof. I do want to give it all the TLC she deserves.
-
Mike, I use the WD40 because there are two cans on my boat at all times. So I guess the main reason, it's readily available. WD40 displaces moisture, lubricates and prevents rust. I spray enough through the carburetor to stall the engine and provide protection to the valves and head components. I pull the plugs and blast each cylinder. If you can convince me that this is harming, or not properly protecting my engine then, let it rip skip. I have used the OMC fogging spray a few years back. An experts opinion has changed my way of thinking more than once.

Tim, It's always a bummer for me to put mine away the last time. I wanted to get out perch fishing today but couldn't get anyone to go. I don't winterize mine until Dec ????? My garage never freezes so I just take out the manifold plug and open the petcock on the engine block. I fog mine with WD40. I pull the outdrive and put it on a roller stand before backing it in the garage, (not much room in back). When I'm bored during the Winter I go out and do the things that are needed.

Dan, We all have been there. It was beautiful day to spend on the water. I was busy with Autumn chores. -

Mike, Enjoy the boys while they are young. They sure are cute. They are also very well behaved for their ages. Isn't great to have those tag a longs? My four y.o. grandson went as a F.F. His preschool class was visited by a local firefighter, and Alex was impressed. Alex also went on a field trip to a Cider Mill. My son took a day off to Chaperone. Ally my three y.o. granddaughter had a dog costume also. I saw both of them in their costumes about a week ago. I didn't have my camera so I requested pics. Luv dem kids.

The only thing that I'm going to say about all this is, "Some times things are not what they appear".
