  1. He was definitely, one of a kind. R.I.P. "EVIL"
  2. A lot of the reason for using leadcore is what the core imparts on the lure. If you rigged a diver on the down side of the core or leader it would negate this. If you were to rig up this way I don't see any advantage say to running just a wire diver set on 3 or 3-1/2.
  3. I'm not sure if that would be a North South thing or not. My last trip to Manistee, and the first morning out, I was trying to run a 6 rod spread. I set 2 Dipsy flasher squid combos, and then set an inside rigger with a #5 Glow Ghost J, 15 back 60 down. Before I could get 5 rods set, that Glow Ghost J took 4 fish. We also took 2 on the Dipsys 150 back on 3. It seems if the fish are hitting Mag Spoons, they will also go for the plugs. Generally (but not always), the early and later bite is on the standard size spoons. I think what happens is, you have to match the bait fish they are feeding on. I have also taken fish on J Plugs long-lined.
  4. Come to think of it the clip on devices would be the only way to go. Discs or other in-line devices would make it impossible to reel in the fish. I know some that have used snap weights after letting out all the core. I think they were supposed to come up with a dive curve for the Dive Bomb, so you had a vague idea of where your lures were running. Anyone see any information or a dive curve for the Dive Bomb??
  5. Most definitely have some J Plugs in the spread. August and September I would have more J Plugs than spoons.
  6. The discs would put more drag on the PBs, maybe the L.J. Jet Divers would be the ticket. I'm interested in this also. I wouldn't mind having 4 two or 3 color setups that could be used as is or run deeper with some kind of diving device. I'm sure someone here has tried other things besides lead to get the cores deeper.
  7. Shu, The best parts of hunting come before the shot. You will connect soon enough. Just for the record, I took my shot Saturday with our car. A $3200 shot. I have been driving since 1961, and this is my first deer with a car. I have been busy with insurance, and estimates. A couple of sportsmen stopped to help, so I let them have the deer. I have enough venison and fish in the freezer.
  8. I know this sounds like a disease, but in fact it's a Linux Operating System for computers. I am running it now but I still have Windows XP installed also. I was wondering if anyone here is running any of the Linux O.S. I have built a couple of PCs and run a few bootlegged copies of XP Pro, that I feel guilty about. The IBUNTU is a free OS that can be downloaded. I burned the ISO to CD so I can load it on any PC. The reason I'm playing with it is $$$. If I can save $$$ on my PC O.S. I can build a better PC, or spend a few more bucks on my true loves. LOL The IBUNTU OS is fully functional, but requires a bit more skill to drive. I would compare the difference to a stick shift or an automatic transmission in your vehicle. The IBUNTU comes with a bunch of free software also. Anyone needing more info let me know. One advantage is the viruses and worms all seem to be aimed @ Windows.
  9. Welcome aboard Blue Waters. I fish Lake Huron and it's Saginaw Bay for Walleye and Perch. I also fish Lake Michigan for Salmon a few times a year. Let me know if you need any help.

  16. Good suggestion Ray. Shu, You may want to check out Michiganmotorz eBay listings also.
  17. Shu, Those 488 Mercruisers were used in 83 and 84 only. They are next of kin to the 485 used in yrs 80-82 and the 470 used 76-84. These engines were designed to run with different fuel than todays blends. The original ignition timing was 8 degrees BTDC. Lately a lot of those older Mercruisers have had piston damage especially in the #1 and #4 cylinders. It is recommended to set the ignition timing to 4 degrees BTDC, to avoid damaging the pistons. Premium fuel may help also. I think basically these older Mercruiser 4s were half of a BIG Block Ford. They were troublesome. These engines are 3.7L or 224CI and had a bit more HP than a 140. I'm not sure what it would cost to repower, but I would spend my dime on that before I rebuild one of those engines. JMHO Frank:)
  18. VN Dave.
