  2. They're just like people. Some go South after the first frost. Some leave right after Thanksgiving. Some celebrate Christmas and then leave. It cost less to fly after the holidays.
  3. Mike (GLF), You are getting a couple of lumps of coal. Tell ya what bro, I'll give ya another ride on the Priority1. Well I got asked what I wanted, and a couple of things I asked for was a 09 DNR Launch sticker, and a LED cap light that takes the AAA batteries. Even with the boat lights on those small counters on the Cannon Riggers can be tough to read, especially the starboard out-and-down, that has the counter on the back side. If you know anything about me, you probably know I prefer the K.I.S.S. approach to most everything I do. I do need a few repair items for the Priority1, but those are things that I can't expect someone to buy, and have a half a chance at getting it right. If I'm real good, maybe I can spend as much time on the water as I did this past Summer. 08 was our best year, with 07 a very close second, and I hope 09 is a good one also. Maybe Santa can straighten up our economy. I'm afraid Christmas is going to be pretty lean in many households. If you can, help someone who needs it. In the true spirit of Christmas, helping someone else will bring rewards beyond your dreams.
  4. A decent catch, and what are bros for? LOL:)
  5. When the fish are actively feeding and are hungry the big lures are in order. When they are full or lethargic the little stuff is what gets them. You just finished a big steak dinner, and the waitress asks if you would like desert. Most likely you will pass on the desert. You are too full and can't eat another bite. You get to the register, to pay the bill, and you pop a couple of tiny butter mints they have in a dish. You were too full for pie, but that little treat got you. Sometimes huge fish are taken with a tiny spoon or even a jig. The small offerings are the dinner mint. The big Spoons and plugs are the steak dinner. This may be over simplifying it, and sometimes all the logical rules go out the window, but most of the time it holds true. When something isn't working, do something different, even if it seems wrong. Like always, "Find out what they want, and give em lots of it.".
  6. The flash will definitely draw them in, and maybe they hit it, or just look it over. I do think scent is a big factor. I know a lot of the West Coasters will tie herring to the back of Quikfish, (a LJ large flatfish like lure). Some say just having one meat rig in a spread will up the percentages. Fish are not all that different from us, when it come to feeding. If you walk down the midway at an expo or fair, the smell of french fries, cinnamon pecans, and other goodies, is what seals the deal.
  7. I had one spoon awhile back, I think we called it Root Beer, it had a copper back. I did take some fish with it but it wasn't a favorite spoon. Some times they will hit anything, and other times .???
  8. GJ Dan. You're tougher than I am. Were you tipping the hooks with anything??
  9. For years I ran 17# Trilene XT on my rigger rods. Lately I have run 25# Pink Ande, because I had a spool given to me. I don't fish Salmon as much as I used to, because of the limited numbers in Lake Huron. I mostly fish in the dark or low light, and haven't noticed any difference in the # of hook ups. It is nice to have the beef to help control the fish when they come in green. Even with the heavy line I like to keep the drag on the loose side to let them make some runs. If I have 400 -500 ft of line out I'll tighten the drag. Don't you just hate it when they release and come at the boat? SOG
  10. They have a lot of good buys. I check their Bargain Cave every few days. A month or so ago I piked up a couple of 20 color cores for $10 each, and some of their real image shallow diving minnow like baits for under $2. I also wear their long sleeve trail shirts, most any time I wear blue jeans. I seldom pay the top price for anything. Even if you have to pay a small shipping fee it's cheaper than fuel for the car.
  11. VG point. I lost a friend last March pushing the limits. Although he was with someone, when they both went through the ice. They were trying to come back in, but the ice deteriorated in just a few hrs. If you get submerged in 32 degree water, it could be curtains within minutes. I feel sorry for his family and his best friend, that almost died with him. R.I.P. Frank D. aka Rubberband Express. Jim, the survivor, fished with me twice this past Summer. Frank and Jim fished the Saginaw Bay, and Manistee. Life goes on, but will we ever learn?? Please play it safe, on hard and soft water.
  12. I do a lot of fishing on the soft water. I haven't been ice fishing in years. Be patient these guys are proud of their fish. With rifle deer season closing, there will be more people posting pics. I lost a good friend last year that went out one too many times. RIP FD. Be careful especially on the first and last ice.
  13. GJ Dave. Up that percentage next time.
  14. Palomar knots are the way to go terminating braided line. I also use the palomar whenever possible terminating mono. I have good results using Spiderwire. I have also used the Ripcord. I spool my braid Dipsy reels with a 25# mono backer and 150yds of braid on top. Most of the time I never see the knot. Why spool the whole reel with the more expensive braid? A good Uni to Uni splice has never failed me.
  15. Will we get a goose for Christmas??
  16. I just noticed the turkey in GLF Logo. Very Nice. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. How about them Lions. OUCH
  17. Nick, Too bad you didn't get into them. It's still good to get off the couch and wet a line.
  18. That is so cool. She will remember that the rest of her life.
  19. Your dock buddy's use of braid on his riggers rods, is also a no no. I don't think I'm alone when I say super braids do not belong on the riggers. Braid has little stretch so it is good for some applications and terrible for others. I think the main reason it is used as backer for core is it's small diameter, thus allowing more line to be spooled. I know that some spool a braid backer then a piece of mono between the braid and the core. The piece of mono works well in the releases.
  20. Priority1
