  1. A warm welcome to you Tony. You will like it here. Let us know if you need any help. My name is Frank and I fish mostly out of AuGres Michigan on Lake Huron and it's Saginaw Bay. I mostly target walleye. I do make a few trips a year to Lake Michigan for some Salmon Slammin. I fish from my 22 ft Starcraft Islander Hardtop. Join us in the Chat Room Wed @ about 8 Eastern. Again a warm welcome to you.
  2. First you need to know what their amp draw is. It should say in their specs. You would not need #4 wire even for 4 downriggers. Here is a link for a boat wiring ampacity chart. http://www.boatus.com/boattech/CircuitProtect.htm
  3. Tray, A warm welcome to you. If you get a chance go to the welcome forum and introduce yourself. Let us know if you need any help. Frank
  4. A friend of mine has a Black Box that is connected to all of his riggers. It is an adjustable way to add some electrical current to your downrigger cables. He swears by it, and does catch fish. Scotty, and Cannon has done some research on this topic also. So far I'm neutral on this subject. I'm just curious how this group feels about this topic. We just kicked around the E-Chip device, and this may be somewhat along the same lines. Pile on.
  5. A warm welcome to you Jay. Thanks for the report. If you get a chance go to the welcome center and introduce yourself. Let us know if we can help in any way. Frank
  6. Welcome aboard Tony. Ken gave you some good advice. You may want to go to the Welcome Forum, and introduce yourself. Let us know if we can help in any way. Again, a warm welcome to you. Frank
  7. Nick, That one sounds like a dandy. I do like the Sportcrafts.
  8. I'm glad the cabin boys each caught a fish. I'll bet they were excited.
  9. My boat will get splashed in a couple of weeks. I'll be out before then in Jack's 17 footer.
  10. I make up a lot of my own stuff, from crawler harnesses to salmon rigs. I paint spoons blades, and tie some squid or fly rigs. I think a lot fishermen get hung up, on what looks nice to them. Some of my spray can paint jobs look good, but not as nice as the store bought ones. Do the fish care if there is some missing paint or a few tattered strand on a fly?? I have had beat up spoons, that I wouldn't sell for $50. Nothing has to look pristine. Like mentioned above if it stops working, and similar stuff is working, then can it.
  11. Dan, GJ figuring it out. This time of year things change fast. Think like a fish and gitter done.
  12. It's always important to spend time with the kids. You accomplished two things, the shakedown cruise, and the time on the water with your kids. Thanks for the report.
  13. Welcome Joe. Let us know if we can help in any way. I fish mostly out of AuGres on the Saginaw Bay, in my 22 ft Starcraft Islander Hardtop. I have traded a couple of trips and get over to Lake Michigan a few times a year. Frank
  14. Skip, There are some reports under the Walleye discussion Forum. I may give it a whirl next week sometime. When you log on here check the new messages. I run through most of them every day. I hope this helps you. Give a shout if we can help in any way.
  15. I buy it at the hardware store for about a dime a foot. I buy the small stuff and force it over the hook eye.
  16. A very warm welcome to you Gene. Let us know if you need any help. I fish out of my 22 Starcraft Islander Hardtop. Most of my fishing is done out of AuGres MI on the Saginaw Bay. We target mostly walleye there. I do wander West for some Salmon Slammin a few times a year. I'm retired, so when the weather suits me, I will fish 5-6 days in a row.
  17. I snell mine with 50#, then slide a short piece of small diameter clear tubing over the line along with a bead or two to hold the hook space. The clear plastic tubing will slide tightly over the hook eye and protect the snell and line from the fish's teeth. Someone on here tuned me into this a couple of years ago.
  18. GJ on the steel Jay.
  19. You know you are welcome. Bring all the luck from the West side over here. I enjoyed fishing with your family. Cam reeled in most of those fish, and it's always a better trip when the kids have a great time.
  20. Most Charters have the Capt. and at least one mate. Even with auto pilot there needs to be someone on the helm when it gets crowded. I thought mates had to have some certification, like a captain, only to a lesser degree.
  21. Yes it is a fine day for us Irish. Even the site is sporting a splash of green. Thank You Mick O'Heckman. I think I'll get a wee bit of Irish whiskey and turn in. I'll be sure to save a splash or two for an eye opener on the great saints day. Corned Beef, Cabbage, carrots, and boiled spuds are on the menu here tomorrow.
  22. That is so true. But if you add the grunts and groans of some grumpy old men to the formula, plus some more #s, the SOGs don't stand a chance. I can't wait to get out there. We will fish Jack's 17 footer until it warms just a touch. Gotta Luv Dat Saginaw Bay.
  23. It looks like another good year ahead. The fish look real healthy. ^5 2 U man.
  24. Everyone misses you Rich, and I'm sure they all understand. In time you will be better than ever. Lean on us if you need to.
