3rd Trip Wed 6-3-2015
Priority1 replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
John, Let me know when you can get over here. -
A great day on Saginaw Bay. Kevin D (Chummer), Don M (Speed Zone), and Mike K (Milwaukee's Best) joined me for a walleye trip on the Saginaw Bay. We fished 2 oz BB off the boards and 3 oz off our down rods. All meat on harnesses. Purple was probably our best color but all colors seemed to produce. We took fish in depths ranging from 11-31 FOW. The bite slowed when the waves were in a transition. When the waves and wind finally started coming NE the bite practically stopped. We worked a bit for our last 3 fish but the waves were around 1.5' and it was a beautiful day on the Bay. 4 man limit of eaters.

Dave, Have fun in the U.P. -
It was a tough bite after the storms on the W side. Maybe next trip I'll try the East side. Sorry about the late report but I had some things that I had to take care of. Sorry about no pics as the camera is still on the boat. Joe, Bob, and I started by doing some scouting. There were nets all over one of my favorite spots off Au Gres. We first set lines in 37 FOW with no takers. More scouting. Set lines in 24 FOW with no takers early but finally picked up a fish that went in the box so I circled back. It was already getting late as I had 2 GM 2cd shift workers onboard and needed to be in by 1PM. I finally figured out that they wanted it sloooow and I mean ice out slooooow. I don't think I ever ran below 1 MPH in late May before. The last hr of fishing I was between 0.7 and 1.0 MPH depending on direction. A glow green on a down rod took 6 out of 12 eyes. We also took a 13-1/2" perch that will be on my dinner plate tonight. We could have filled up with 3 more fish if we had another 1/2- 1 hr fishing time. Just too slow figuring it all out. The radio was full of doom and gloom. I gave out the information to slooooow it down over the radio to a few friends, and all that were listening on 68. The same info was phoned to some friends. There were suspended fish that just wouldn't go so we scraped all of them off the bottom. 3oz BB off the down rods and 2oz off the boards. Spinner rigs with meat. Light bite to say the least.

Tue 5-26-15 Shakedown Trip
Priority1 replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
Keep in touch Kevin. We need to trade a trip. Thanks for your info. We picked a starting point around the horn and into the shallows. It didn't produce like I had hoped but the skunk jumped out of the box and we were on our way. I'm launching Au Gres tomorrow. Give me a call when you get back over this way. -
I fished with Skip S, and Adam A for a tough three man limit. We started shallow and picked up 4 walleye and a 33" Pike. The action was sloooooow so we decided to move. We set down a couple of places and didn't set up until we found some deeper fish. It wasn't fast action but we picked away for a three person limit. 1.2-1.5 MPH SOG. A glow green blade was our best, followed closely by a hammered copper. Antifreeze also took a fish or two. 1,2, and 3 oz BB with harnesses. We fished in 6-28 FOW. Water temps were 60-64 degrees. It was a beautiful day with waves 1' to 1-1/2'. I may try for a Thursday run if the weather allows. Just trying to get tuned back in. I think the fish were feeding all night on bugs. I didn't find anything but bugs in their stomachs. Our biggest walleye was 19" and we farmed 2 keepers. Thank you Skip and Adam for joining me.

Any report is better than no report. Mike gives a quite a bit of information in his reports. I use the reports that are posted here and post a quite a few of them myself. Fishing is just that and not about pulling limits every time. There are so many variables that need to be addressed and these can vary from boat to boat. Fishing is a learning experience. There is absolutely no substitute for time spent on the water. Besides time spent on the water there needs to be a lot of prep time onshore to be successful. I have fished on other boats and started the trip by doing a lot of things that could have been done a lot easier at home. Ya have to do everything right for your particular situation and fine tune a program that works well for you.

Is the glass half empty or half full? I witnessed first hand the Salmon numbers falling on Lake Huron. There are still a good number of silver fish caught here and mix that up with Lakers, Browns, and Walleye, and you'll catch fish and have just as much fun doing it. Focus on the fish that are there. We are all so fortunate to have these great fisheries in our back yards. A day trip will put you on any one of the Great Lakes. How good is that? FISHON!!
