  1. I usually use a fine tip magic marker and write on the chrome part of the reel, what it is spooled with. You have to redo then a few times a year.
  2. Using the resistor color code is good idea for a geek electrician. Now I know how GLF is catching all his fish. He is applying the ohms law to his fishing gear, and electrocuting the fish. The pics of the cabin boys reeling in fish in their PJs are priceless.
  3. Alan, I seldom fish salmon until August. I like the glow Js before sunrise. If you do it right, before sunrise, you can sleep the rest of the day.
  4. Alan, A warm welcome to you. I fish mostly out of AuGres on the Saginaw Bay. I do make a few trips to Lake Michigan every year. You will like it here. Just ask if you need any help. I know you can contribute a lot of information.
  5. I use the crossed steels that are in a plastic holder. If you use a feather light touch with these, you can shave with the knife. A guy from Marbles showed me how to use them.
  6. I picked up a couple of Big Jon Multi Set rod holders, that will go on my out and down swivel bases. My out and down riggers will be taken off when walleye fishing. I may come into the new millennium and get a new GPS with a GLs chip. I have been using a LMS 350 Lowrance Combo unit. It never fails me, so it will remain on my dash. Us dinosaurs like to hang on to the past, but slowly crawl into the future. I just put a new distributor and coil on the Priority1. I may put on a Fish carburetor. Now how about that for a fishing boat. Whatever it takes to gitter done, old or new.
  7. One season and you will wonder how you ever got by without the trees.
  8. You betcha, "The Dog House Boogie".
  9. Thanks Don. I always enjoyed my times with the West siders, on the Saginaw Bay, or Lake Michigan. This site has been great, because I got to meet a lot of VG fishermen. It's a special kind of friendship once you fish or hunt with someone.
  10. Not really a superstition, but if I sit down and put my feet up on the engine cover, it's a sure thing FISHON. Of course when I do this I may have a sandwich or a drink.
  11. If we could only get salmon to taste like walleye. Like you, I'm grateful we have both in this great State.
  12. Frank's Great Outdoors in Linwood, and Northwoods in Pinconning has them. The last time I bought OR16s was in a 10 pack from Frank's.
  13. Congrats on your engagement, and the very best to both of you. Just voted.
  14. It sounds like a good time. I may make it over a time or two. It's too far for me to go for just 1 day. I would probably camp for a day or two prior. As the events get closer, some of us may be able to get adjacent camp sites.
  15. Ken, Nice fish.
  16. WTG Pete. I miss jumping on brush piles.
  17. It was definitely the shrinkage factor.
  18. Makes me shiver just watching it. BRRRRRRRRRR
  19. OR18 about $10 OR16 about $4
  20. What we should all do is start reporting poorly marked nets. They are difficult to see in ideal conditions. They are almost impossible to see when the waves are two or more feet, until you are almost on top of them.
  21. One thing on the OR18s, they will work if you lock them back or lock them forward. I ALWAYS lock them forward, away from the board. When they are locked forward all it takes is a flip of the thumb and it's free. If you lock it towards the board you will have to fiddle some to get it open. I sometimes have to remind people onboard to do this. The quicker the board is off the better chance you have of landing the fish. A bunch of little things do add up.
  22. I'll be calling also. I'm missing the lens off one of the line counters.
  23. Yes!!! you do need to clip the rear release to the line. I never tried it without doing so, but I don't think the board would run properly using only the front release.
  24. Adam, Good report. Everyone, Please be careful, especially first and last ice.
