  1. I have used different spices but I always add Kosher Salt enough to just float an egg. The salt is part of the preserving process. The last couple of times I put the fish in gallon zip-locks and then added the brine. Lay the zip-locks on their sides and flip after a few hrs. Using the bags you don't need as much brine.
  2. They do work. That cat has been out of the bag for a quite a few years now. Were going to have to rename it.
  3. Brian, Way to smack em.
  4. Jeff, GJ on the Steel and LT.
  5. Depth, as well as lead lengths. Some times fish will slam stuff in the prop-wash and other times they are spooky as heck.
  6. What a bonus.
  7. Ben, If you are going to have a limited # of cores maybe consider some short cores that weight can be added to get them deeper. The two and three color are very versatile. Snap weights, Dive Bombs, Rubber Core sinkers are ways to get the short cores deeper. The two and three color cores can also be run off downriggers as a SWR (Secret Weapon Rig). You may also want to consider some copper, as the trend seems to be heading in that direction.
  8. Joe, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I like to fish the eyes on the Saginaw Bay. Line counter reels, in-line planer boards, sonar, and a GPS. To shorten your learning curve the best advice I can give you is to fish with someone else and learn what works for them and go from there.
  9. Scott, GJ on that PS solo trip. Be extra careful when you are out there alone.
  10. Thanks Gordy.
  11. Just rip a gill with your finger.
  12. Nels, It would be an honor to have a couple of vets onboard.
  13. Rubber bands are OK but they have been know to find their way into the bilge and screw up some bilge pumps. Scraps of mono can do the same so keep a litter bag handy. It's not a bad idea to clean the bilge pump every so often.
  14. Kevin, GJ on your late season trip.

  20. I think they should be separate. There is too much to cover to combine these two subjects.
  21. Ryan, Thanks for the report.
