  1. Arron, A warm welcome to the GLF site. Just holler if you need anything.
  2. Cool video.
  3. Happy Anniversary and CONGRATS. It's a good place to hang.
  4. It's not against the rules to run spoons on mono. Just personal preferences.
  5. Joseph, A warm welcome to the GLF site. Thunder bay and a lot of the inland lakes around Alpena are good for eyes. I fished with Twill out of Rockport for some decent Lake Trout in the Spring. Drop on down to the Saginaw Bay for some walleye whacking also. I live between Tawas and AuGres. It's good to have another Eastsider here.
  6. Kim, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I could get into ice fishing like that.
  7. Don, Thanks for posting the link. Steve, I you have any questions let us know.
  8. A pretty good perk.
  9. Sounds like a lot of things, "ya either love em or hate em". I have always been curious about them, but never tried them.
  10. Ryan, Thanks for the report. Better Luck next time.
  11. Jay, Don't ya know that's their Pay now but play later plan. The SOBs. We reserved a room once and had the full room charged a month before we used it. I called and canceled the room and booked elsewhere.
  12. WTG Joe,
  13. Jon, Walleye are not noted for screaming drags. We have taken Kings, Steelhead, Lakers, Northern Pike and Whitefish on crawler harnesses. Walleye can be spooky so the boards work well. We fish them in the shallow and deep water. Some times the walleye can be very aggressive and not spooky at all. We had a walleye hit a bare crawler harness soaking in the prop wash waiting to be baited in 12 FOW. Trees work well for boards and when conditions are right we let it all hang out, running 10 boards and 2 lines over the side for a total of 12 lines. Walleye don't seem to care what method is used to put the goods in their faces. Divers (jets & dipsys), Snap Weights, Bouncers, Rubber Core, In-Line weights, Leadcore, Riggers, etc can all be used successfully on walleye. Use a program your comfortable with and fine tune it. Like always little things mean a lot. Find out what they want and give em lots of it.
  14. Divers either braid or wire.
  15. That's a big 10-4. I pull 10 OR12s when crew and conditions permit. The thing with the flags If you are paying attention you may even see that short bite. Drop it back and wham. You can even see a bait stealing perch picking you clean. This stuff goes unnoticed with big boards and you may be fishing without any bait. The flags are not quite as important pulling cranks. The in-line boards with flags has increase my catch a ton. 10 boards and two lines over the side and you can zero in on a pattern in a hurry.
  16. I use the pool noodles also. I don't cut the V or slots all the way around. I just cut about an inch and a half slice every 3/4 of an inch along the length of the noodle piece. The short slice gives you a place to start, then wind the leader tight and stick the open snap into the foam.
  17. $400 would definitely cut the payback time. I like fishing old Starcrafts. I have one myself. It's kinda like me, "old, slow, but somewhat dependable".
  18. I switched from big boards to in-lines about 5 years ago and never looked back. It is personal preference. You may want to fish with someone who runs the big boards before you decide to mount the mast. You will either love them or hate them.
  19. Ed, I have been procrastinating also. The honey do list keeps growing. February is a short month but it's the month I get most of my work done on the boat and otherwise. Don't ever throw one of their lists away. Ignoring their list is OK but defying them by throwing the list out, ohhhhh!!! you are asking for it.
  20. Kyle, There ya go giving them more ideas. How about a horse from Mackinac Island pulling the line. The fudgies would even pay to see that.
  21. Jay, Thanks for sharing the pics.
  22. Tobias, A warm welcome to the GLF site. Just holler if you need any help.
  23. Thank you John. I needed that.
  24. Amen to that Don. If you loose power in big waves drop an anchor or a trolling bag off the bow PRONTO TONTO. The safety factor of a kicker is a big plus. Saving money????? If you get the kicker for nothing maybe. $3000 for a kicker with controls divided by $15 fuel savings/trip equal a 200 trip payback. Most boats that I fished on with kickers just didn't respond quickly enough in three foot or better seas. They are OK going with the flow.
