  1. Pinks have worked for me in the past. A pink Jig with a white tail was one of my go to set ups for river jigging. Pink has always been great for steel and eyes.
  2. Like most every kind of trolling a lot of little things can add up. If the speed gets off a couple of tenths, or lead lengths change, etc, etc, etc. Get it all dialed in and EUREKA!!!!. It's as simple as finding out what they want, then giving em lots off it.
  3. I have been retired for 11 years and living here the same amount of time. Every dollar I get has to do the work of two dollars. My small pension doesn't ever go up. We have been getting screwed by our township on taxes for 11 years. Enough is enough. I just hope I can win my case and move on. Before I was even through construction I wanted to sell my place. I did try to sell it 3 years after moving in with no luck in this wonderful economic climate we are in. This township has given me the hard way to go ever since buying the lot in 96. I live in the smallest county in the Michigan. Our township is also small. The trouble with small is you get people running things that don't have near the qualifications to do the job. So part time unqualified individuals are what I have to deal with. It did just get a little better we got a new assessor who seems knowledgeable and reasonable. Our former assessor was fired. Last year we got our notices for the Board of Review one business day before the board met. How do you begin to prepare for a appeal with that kind of notice. Sometimes life sucks and then you die. That's enough of this rant. Sorry.
  4. I run two bags constructed by a boat canvas place in Tawas MI. They have used them for 7 years. These were constructed with some of their leftover material. Mine are two different colors. I leave them rigged all the time so it's quick to get them in the water. I run them mid ship so they are out of the fishing area on my 22 ft Islander. They have done me well. I use them every trip. I do a ton of walleye trolling and these bags not only slow the boat they stabilize it in rougher seas. I don't have a kicker. The drawback I have noticed with kickers is in rough seas, the control is not near as good as running the main engine and using bags. I hope this helps.
  5. I have a small start on my gear. I have to work an the boat and trailer a couple of full days. I also have to work on my gear a day or two. I don't go unless I'm prepared. The time spent on shore preparing pays big dividends when you hit the water. I have fished with some that are doing everything including changing line on the water. They waste half their time doing things that should be done on shore. Thanks for the good wishes.
  6. Nick, I'm glad you found it early so avoid a more costly repair.
  7. I have been extremely busy with property tax issues. I have a 2008 appeal before the MI Tax Tribunal. I have been doing a lot of research and found several errors on my tax cards. When I'm dealing with this stuff it just consumes me. I recently was given a date for a phone hearing that I respectfully declined and the judge adjourned that hearing. I have a lot of data and I will be able to present it better in person. Actually I think I may finally be able to settle this locally if I can get the court to nudge the township in that direction. I only want the wrongs corrected and go on from there. I need to start thinking fishing and getting my stuff ready. This appeal can mean some fishing $$$ so I have to pursue it. I have done my homework so I think I have a better than average shot at winning my appeal. If I don't seem like my head is on straight it probably isn't. I need to get this behind me and purge my mind of this crap so I can concentrate on My #1 Priority.
  8. Ken, GJ on the eyes.
  9. Roger, GJ on the Winter steel.
  10. Around 6 ft. I usually stretch out both arms and cut and tie the slider.
  11. Lee, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I fish the Saginaw Bay mostly out of AuGres. Holler if you need anything. Lee, I'm going to move this to the welcome section.
  12. Jay, GJ on the Winter Steel.
  13. Brandon, Thanks for the information.
  14. Use at least 30# braid and even 50#. The heavier lines are better at repelling the sea fleas. As far as how deep there are a lot of variables. Speed, Diver setting, size of diver, and currents. You can go by the diver charts but it's still and educated guess. I used to have a LJ dipsy chart. I'll see if I can dig it up. Bob, A warm welcome to the GLF site. There are a lot of people here willing to help.
  15. I run the old LMS 350 Lowrance and it can be run just GPS or Just Sonar. I prefer running it that way. I believe all of the combos can be run split screen with both GPS and Sonar or singular.
  16. Congrats on the new family member. He's a lucky dog.
  17. She looks sweet.
  18. Mark, A warm welcome to the GLF site. I fish Bouncers and don't have any trouble getting down in the 30-40 ft range with 2 and 3 oz bouncers. I fish AuGres a lot and typically were fishing 25-35 FOW. We do fish in the weeds once in awhile also. I did do some deep water fishing also. I have run crawler rigs off my downriggers when I need to get down deep and dirty. Most of the time walleye are not as spooky as people think. Put the goods in their face any way you can and they will smack it. I run 10# Ande Mono. I spool my reels most of the way with 20# and splice on 100 yds of 10#. The 20# is red and the 10# is clear. When I start seeing too much red I strip off the remaining 10# and splice on a new piece. This keeps the reel full and the line I'm using fresh. I fish a lot so my reels get re-spooled at least once half way though the season and sometimes more depending on tangles etc.
  19. Dave, Better luck next time. At least you had one on.
  20. Offshore Boards.
  21. The one big disadvantage these have is like Slide Divers, you have to thread them on the line. I can't see them replacing boards unless you're running a very limited spread. Maybe down the road some of these issues will be addressed.
  22. I'm constantly experimenting with different crawler rigs and tying up more of my old favorites. I recently sold some of my Line Counter reels and added 6 new ones. I used to run a some different 8-8-1/2 ft rods for my 10 board spread. I recently obtained 12 new Okuma 7 foot rods to use with my boards. I'll probably sell some of my excess 8-8-1/2 foot rigger rods, and keep a few.
  23. Dave you can probably find pieces on eBay, or any metal supply place.
