  1. Dave, Thanks for the report. Get em next time.
  2. Ed, A warm welcome to the GLF site.
  3. Dave, GJ figuring things out. Thanks for the report.
  4. Mark, Thanks for the report. GJ on the King and Brown.
  5. Way to get the skunk out on your shakedown cruise. GJ:)
  6. I had mine made at a local canvas shop. They used pieces of material from larger jobs. They have held up real well and I use them every trip. I fish a lot.
  7. Ya can't go wrong with the real thing. Crawler harnesses with Bottom Bouncers, In-line weights, or snap weights. In that order. Colors: Chartreuse, Purple, Glows, Orange, Pink. These are a few of my favorite things. Spoons and cranks will work also. I tie my own rigs. I was just messing with some before logging on. Early river fishing jigs with crawlers or minnows or even grub tails. When you get over there start yacking with some of the locals. They may be looking for a fishing pal or may share some of their knowledge. Spend a buck or two in the local bait shops and ask questions.
  8. Capt. Rich, Thanks for the report. Sometimes a ballsy move pays off. We have all been on the good and bad side of that one. At least you got on some fish early on.
  9. Take your boat. Burt Lake is a good walleye lake and not far from there. You could always drop down to Alpena and fish Thunder Bay also.
  10. Bob, GJ on the steel.
  11. Brandon, Sorry to hear that. From all I have gathered Bird's customer service is great. I hope it's a simple fix that can be handled over the phone.
  12. Jim, Good Job on the Browns.
  13. Ed, That's fishing. We can't win them all or we'd probably quit doing it. You finished real strong on Saturday. GJ Sunday WOW!!!
  14. Get you Captains License and pursue your education. Captains need a break also and with your growing, glowing reputation you could fill in for some of them now and then and first mate when captains gigs were not available. The way I see it the Captains License is just a part of your overall education. You are a young man. Put as much between your ears as you can.
  15. Go Get Em Grant. Darn that's a lot of G words.
  16. The water is fast, stained, and a lot of debris. It's far from ideal but fishable. It's will not be easy pickins. We had a little rain this week but it's the snow melt that is the major contributor to conditions. There is a huge watershed that feeds the Saginaw River system.
  17. Thanks Chad. I didn't fish as much as normal last year because of a shoulder injury. Going to try and make up for some lost time this year. I just love to be out there and learn a lot from the many good people I fish with.
  18. The water is and will be fast and stained. Lot of run off right now. It probably wouldn't hurt to have some heavier jigs as well as the 1/2 oz. At times I have used 1/8 and 1/4 in shallow slack water. Conditions probably will be tough. MS is having a get together at the Zilwaukee Launch so that will be crowded. Here is a link to a map that shows launches etc. Zoom in on the areas. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=101921521052446999541.00047cb352558f8ddd845&ll=43.587354,-83.746033&spn=0.424737,1.234589&t=h&z=10
  19. I have a large quantity of 1/8 and 1/4 oz Round Lead head jigs. These have barbs to hold soft plastic grubs etc. The two colors I have are Chartreuse and Hot Pink. These are Wazp brand jigs with tough paint and all have black dots for eyes. Mix or match colors. 50- 1/8 oz $5 50- 1/4 oz $7 Just a WAG I must have 500-600 total. I used to do a lot of jigging. Where I fished it wasn't uncommon to lose 10-15 jigs a day.
  20. Jimmy, Gitter Done. The action is starting early this year.
