Why?????? Why over analyze it? Find out what they want and give it to em. Ever have days where you break all the known presentation rules and still catch fish? A lot of times baits don't have to represent a darn thing. Maybe the color just pi$$es the fish off and they strike it out of anger. I agree about the red and white Dare Devil. Northerns will hit them in most any conditions. I think it just triggers an anger strike. Fishing gills on their beds is a good example of the anger strike.
