  1. nailer; 75' is plenty of a spread for me, however I only deploy two riggers straight out the back and one wire diver out each side as a deep diver on a 1.5 setting. Then the core out the highest and farthest. At times I leave the riggers in and deploy a deep diver on a 1 and a higher diver on a 2 setting out each side of the boat. Then the core beyond that. Another common spread for me is two riggers out the back and two divers out the side. Sometimes hard to get at the fish.
  2. Don, mine is a walleye set-up for lake Erie. I use 18 lb. core and 20 lb. mono for this particular rig. Salmon are harder fighting so you will need to beef up your rig accordingly. I have not fished copper either so I can't help you there. With lead I use a willis knot and that works well. With copper I believe the proper knot is an albright. Copper is a fairly thick line especially the 45 lb. version. Two considerations to pay attention to. Make sure the line guide on the reel will allow the knot to pass through easily. Also the rod must have line guides large enough for the knots. HIH
  3. Segmenting gives you the option of fishing two different lengths of copper on the same rod. This works well for lead core as well. I have a 10 colour leadcore on one rod but choose to segment it. At the lure end is 50 ' of leader, then going up the line I have a 50 ' segment of mono at 3, 5, 7 colours with mono backer to fill the spool. This is one of my best walleye set-ups. I can fish 4 lengths of lead from one rod. Each segment of mono is long enough so that I can attach an inline board. Depending on how far out to the side you want to fish will dictate the length of mono between segments of lead or copper. Each segment allows me to add drop weights or dive bombs for further adjustability. Some prefer to use braid, but I find mono to be more forgiving.
  4. That's the one thing about Erie's central basin. There is always a good amount of traffic. My previous rig had an inline 6, merc tower of power, 115 hp. two-stroke. I swear that rig burned fuel trailering down the road. It was very dependable though. I've gotten away from the low rpm by deploying sea anchors. When fish are close, no need for a kicker. As the season progresses, distance to the fishing can be anywhere from 13 to 17 miles one way. At those distances, safety comes into play as well as fuel economy.
  5. Mike, if I came across as critical, that was not my intent. Just looking for some answers. I became a member to join in the fun and participate. So I came in from the cold, so to speak. I do not regret becoming a member in the least and look forward to a long friendship with other members of this board.
  6. So does that mean that you buy only from your sponsors?? So if Jim set up a web page and became a sponsor of your site, would that be OK?? Businesses advertise on forums for exposure. This website as any other needs a membership with enough daily traffic to draw sponsorship. That's why you leave the forums open for viewing. This increases daily forum activity. As you know activity from members alone would not encourage much sponsorship.
  7. It would save a lot of gas over my 350 Chevy that's for sure!
  8. I'm sorry, Mike I don't buy that at all! To follow that line of thinking then I shouldn't go to a sports show anywhere or buy anything out of the area where I live. What's up with that?? And I doubt that you've never bought anything at an out of town or county show of any kind. The small local businesses have an opportunity to have an online store as well if they choose. I frequent four local sports shops, 3 of which have websites. One is an archery shop for the most part and has a website. One is a gunshop for the most part and has other sporting goods as well, but does not have a website. Just bought a rangefinder there. One has a marina attached and has a website. One is a bait and tacklestore right on the water and has a website. The only time I go to walmart for anything is when I can't find it elsewhere. Home Depot moved into town recently. I still go to same plumbing store that has been here forever! And that will not change anytime soon. I believe there is room for everyone if they put out the effort to keep their business going and growing. I don't think that Jim's intent is to put anyone out of business!
  9. Now that's funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I have a similar sized boat. I see it's a Honda, but what horsepower?
  11. Hey there Sean, go directly to the manufacturers website and do a search of their products. http://www.garelick.com/obmb.html Hope you find what you need. You should be able to buy off the shelf.
  12. My Pentax Spotmatic F has a leather case which has no insulation and worked just fine when I was in Sault St. Marie Ontario. I find the film cameras were tougher and would take more abuse without serious issue. Now I like you am in the process of going digital. So far I use a point and shoot model and am about to step up to SLR. The case I use presently has about half an inch or so of insulation and find it sufficient. I just want the camera to come up in temp gradually.
  13. Those of us who wear glasses know that going out into the cold, everything is fine. It's when we come in from the cold that our glasses fog up. So too will your camera lens if you don't give it time to adjust to the temperature change.
  14. That is correct!
  15. I leave my camera in a good case all the time. I haven't had any problems when going out. When I come back in, I leave the camera in the case for an hour or so to warm gradually. Then I remove, inspect and clean it before I put it away. I use rechargeable batteries and I make sure to remove them for charging. I also keep a supply of regular batteries on hand in the camera case for those times when these others are not fully recharged. The problem with reusable batteries is that they start to loose their charge as soon as you remove them from the charger.
  16. I mainly use a lens filter to protect the front of the lens from damage. You will want a polarizing to minimize glare. This an assortment of UV filters available as well. I take my cmaera to a good photography shop and try lenses until I find what I like.
  17. Mike, a lens hood is used to control the amount of light. When you have your subject in position and in focus, the light meter in the camera will get a truer reading. It stops flaring in the lens from direct sunlight and remote flash.
  18. Mike I'm out in the boon docks without high speed so I won't be watching the video. That doesn't preclude me from sending a reply. To you and yours a safe and Merry Christmas and all the best for a prosperous 2010!!!;)
  19. :lol:Now that's funny! Keep the wife off balance!;)
  20. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Screensavers/Actual-Moon-3D.shtml I have this loaded on my computer as a screensaver. Shows the actual moon phase and gps coordinates of my location.
  21. I for one would like a little more information. Just what are we talking about here. Terminal tackle only or riggers and electronics as well. What would be a minimum value order for me? Would I have to get a membership?
  22. Hey guys, if you are looking for more economical parts, look at truck accessories! http://www.vehiclelight.com/970988.html http://www.anythingtruck.com/commercial/lights/led/led-backup-lights.mv http://www.uatparts.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=uatparts&Category_Code=LEDLIGHT HIH!!!
  23. Yeah, that'l make better fisherman!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. At this point, wish list only! Two Islander MR2 mooching reel setups. The price is shocking! Not likely to happen! New fishfinder with side scan. Pricey:eek:, but more likely to happen.
  25. I don't know when, but should the patent run out then they will be a lot cheaper when others come out with knockoffs. So far I like my churches the way I run them. However I don't run more than 5 colours of leadcore. I have 2 Church and 2 Offshore boards. The Churches I run inside and the Offshores on the outside of the spread. Each is set for a specific application and they stay that way! And yes, I have changed out the clips.
