NWMI Fishing Club - Cisco in the Crisco
ThreeDogsDown replied to ThreeDogsDown's topic in Tournaments
Summary of Cisco in The Crisco: 1st place combined bag (1-man Cisco limit plus 1-man lake trout limit) Total weight= 24lbs 2nd place combined bag = 16lbs 3rd place combined bag = 8lbs 1st Heaviest Cisco only (Champion) bag = 16lbs Largest Laker Side bet option winner was 3.8 lbs. There was a heavier laker caught, but that fish was not part of the side bet option, so did not receive a payout. Overall, Cisco size and numbers were noticeably down from the last few contests we have hosted on East Bay. Water is still cold 41-43 degrees and no real big pods were located. While cleaning them, they were full of small alewife (1.5”-2”). Good to see that bait, troubling to see Ciscos loaded with them. Great fish fry was served up and good payouts were handed out as well. After the wind calmed and the sun came out, it made for a nice morning. Cold start however. Next event is Lake Leelaunau on Wednesday evening (12May). Biggest walleye and biggest pike will pay. Should be the “real first day of spring” and a nice evening out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Winter Fishing

I was out Sunday (today is Friday) in West Grand Traverse Bay. Lakers were frantic as usual. Kept 3, released 8. Lost 3 on the way to the boat. They are still deep (100’-150’). Spoons and flasher fly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Well, nothing significant to report. A few guys were on the north and south piers. Couldn’t tell if they were doing any good. Didn’t see any movement or nets swinging. We launch at 1000 headed with the wind south with a 6 line spread. 3 flatlines, a 2, 3, and 5 color. 3 bodybaits and 3 DW super slim spoons. We zig zagged from 30’ to 50’ on the way to Arcadia. Caught on 15” coho and released. We headed back north into the wind and had two good rips with no one home and a third questionable rip and run. Best marks came on the 60’ and 63’ contours, but nothing really biting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Ugg man. I have had more days like that than good ones this year. I am doing a fluid filter change on my motor and replacing downrigger cables. Awaiting parts. So your report alleviates my regret for not getting out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Its been very tough with this weeks wind. From hard fishing since Wednesday (didn’t fish Thursday), we ended with 1 Coho and 3 Kings (multiple lakers and cisco, but I don’t count them). I am down for a 500 hour maintenance on my motor (3 seasons) and two Downrigger cables and clutches. A foam cannon dueche of the boat as well. So it will be this coming weekend before I get back out. This. FishUSA had a sale last year-buy 2 at 20$ each, get one more free. Great deal. They have been great rods for cheap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ended the night in West Bay with two Kings (13.5 and 18) and three lakers. Lost 2 more kings and 2 more lakers. So 5 in the boat on 8 hits. We did not enter the Boardman hole because we had out a 9-line spread with a 300 cooper and a 10 and 7 color. It was too congested in there. We stayed out in the bay proper in 100-130’. Good action. Salmon are snapping. You have another good 3 weeks or more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My inside dipsies (low divers) are on a “1” setting, which gives you a 2:1 ratio. So 200’ of line out is 100’ down. My outside dipsies are on a “3” setting which is a 2.5:1 ratio. So 200’ out is 80’ down. West Bay launches are the Boardman River launch, Clinch Park, and Elmwood Township. You can troll the Boardman hole from the Boardman Launch or from Clinch Park and both launches are within 500’ of the Boardman hole...and then, start up the Eastern side of West Bay. The Eastern shelf side of West Bay is within 1 mile of both launches. From Elmwood Marina you can head out to the green can on the SW side of Power Island. That is a 3 mile run, but will get you out in a good salmon highway. On East Bay, The Center Road launch on the West Side of East Bay in great water already. Head out to 100’ or more of water, and head north or south depending on the wind, and you are in the right spot. Yuba Launch on the East side of East Bay gives quick access to Deepwater point (within a mile). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Roger, the GT Bays are my home water. Yes, Dipsies will be fine. Make sure they are the magnum size and they have the ring. You may also want to use a snubber (your preference-I always do). My first salmon last year from West Bay came on the 9th of August. My first salmon last year from East Bay came on 28 August. Lots of dipsy fish on flasher fly combos. Reminder: The NWMI Fishing Club is hosting their Wednesday evening contest on Long Lake (Grand Traverse County) from 6-9 tonight. Registration starts at 5pm. Registration is at the Crescent Shores Launch and Matt will have the NWMI FC banner on his truck. Go tell him you want to enter the walleye division ($10), and the “any other species division” ($10). That is $20 per boat if you sign up for both divisions. Sign liability waiver and move out smartly. Launch boat (yes, you can launch before 6). Head out, lines in at 6 (honor system). Fish until 9. If you are going to be late coming back to the launch, text Matt and let him know. Bring fish up to weigh and win 10 billion dollars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
