Saw on another site that Cabela's has the S-N-T unit on sale......the problem is they are discontinuing it. Might have problems getting replacement probes and such. Just a heads up.
-
I think that the new FishHawk is a lot better than the old units, pretty pricey though. Both the Depth Raider and Moor Subtroll are good units, I have been on boats with all three. I have also been on boats with the Cannon, thought it was alright. I think the Cannon probe is really expensive though. All of them have their pros and cons. More of a personal preference.

I've never tried it but it sounds like a good idea. You could try the smaller coho flies. I've actually got quite a few small flashers and dodgers, along with different sets of coho and peanut flies. I'll have to remember this for next year.

Isle Royal 8-5
Paulywood replied to special x's topic in Minnesota Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Did you mean 10-5? Either way I have to say that I'm jealous. That would be a great trip. I hope to do something like that when I get a bigger boat. Thanks for the report. -
I went to Sear's to check on requirements for different tools and specs from the different air compressors. They had a 26 gallon compressor that was rated for 6.7 CFM at 40 psi and 4.3 CFM at 90 psi. I checked the different air tools and it seems that it should run pretty much every air tool except some of the orbital sanders and is borderline for a spray gun. Since I don't foresee a need for either of those I plan on checking out different compressors and finding the best deal on one with similar specs. Thanks for the help, guys.

Good idea Frank. I am in Lansing now, think I'll stop in at Sears and check it out. Won't buy one, but I can do a little research.
-
That's kind of what I was thinking Wayne. Hope someone on here has some ideas. Saylor Beal is in St. Johns. We actually make the rings for their compressors. I'm just not sure how many CFM I would need to run air tools.
-
I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on air compressors? I would like one that is able to run nail guns and impact wrenches. Would prefer something portable. I have been looking at them and they all give PSI ratings but I thought that impact wrenches and other automotive tools were guided by CFM? I want a compressor that is versatile. I'm in no hurry but will probably buy one before the end of the year. I've got quite a few projects around the house that will require a nail gun over the next few years. And I also like to fix as many things on my vehicles as possible. Thanks for your help.

Study: Offshore Wind Turbines Could Pack Punch
Paulywood replied to News's topic in Great Lakes News
Same thing with the hybrids. By the time you pay the extra money, it takes almost 10 yrs. to make up the difference. And if you have to replace a battery pack at $10,000 then it takes even longer. Most people are just reacting without thinking. -

Good luck Mike! I will be drinking beer and watching the Spartans (Steve Spurrier quote) "hang half a hundred" on J-Claw and the Irish.

Hey, if you need someone to catch a buoy, I'm your man.

Treblemaker(Tim Stein) has written some pretty good articles on this subject for Woods-N-Water and in last month's Great Lakes Angler that might help. Good luck, it's something I've always wanted to do.

This isn't west michigan but we had our cover made at Boak's Upholstery in St. Johns and he did a great job. I had a lot of compliments on it and it held up great. Very heavy. I know this doesn't pertain to you but thought it might help someone else.

Mike, In my family we have 2 small Stihl's, a medium sized(18"?) Stihl, and my brother has a large(24"?) Husqvarna. They are all good saws. The 2 smaller Stihl's are newer and I don't like them as much as the older one. They seem to have a lot more plastic on them. The Husqvarna is a horse. It's a lot louder than the Stihl's, though. My dad, brother, and uncle all burn wood so we use them a lot and they hold up to the abuse quite well.

I'd be interested Mike. Is this something that would have a smaller entry fee than the Tournament Trail but more than the WMFL? Would you have a maximum number of boats? What are you looking for in a minimum? I love a little competition.

Dad's first king...in 20+ years!
Paulywood replied to Treblemaker's topic in Pier and River Fishing Discussion
Nice job Tim! He looks pretty happy. Next year I plan on taking my grandpa out salmon fishing, he's never been out on LM and he's 79. He taught me how to perch fish on Higgins Lake when I was a kid and I can't wait to get him hooked into a king. He rarely fishes anymore. Sometimes people forget how much they enjoy doing certain things when they don't do it for a long time. -
That's a GMT-40. Unfortunately Cabela's doesn't make it anymore. I thought that I saw where someone else makes one similar, if I come across it I'll post.

In-Line Planer Boards and Worn Pins
Paulywood replied to GLF's topic in Equipment Inventions/Modifications
I rigged up 4 boards with different front and rear releases before the season started but haven't used them enough to make a decision. I have the plunger release's on 2 and the OR 16 on one. I have found deficencies with both. I plan to keep experimenting. I do have a board with an OR 16 in the rear, I like that setup so far. -
You can copy and paste the url into your email and link it to them.

Holland 8-28 PM
Paulywood replied to Paulywood's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
I've never fished them before but the guys at American Tackle should give you a report and bait. They were right off the pier the other day. Look for a pack of boats. -
Fished with Mike(Redeagle) last night out of Holland going 7/10. 5 kings, a steelie and a big 12 lb. laker. 130-155 ft. of water early and 105 ft. as the sun went down. Here's what went: Braid dipsey on 3 175' back w/ chrome/redhead J-plug-small steelie Braid Dipsey on 3 175' back w/ green scaly back J-plug-2 small kings Wire Dipsey on 3 200' back w/ blue slick/glow 8" Pro-Chip/Mirage Siggs Fly-small king SWR 105' down w/ Purple Glow Frog-Big Laker and small king SWR 65' down w/ Purple Glow Frog-small king Missed fish on the SWR 105' down, wire dipsey 225' back w/ 11" Double Pearl Fishscale Pro-Troll and Blue/Green Dolphin Glow Siggs, and rigger 75' down w/ Glow Screwball Great Night on the water, nice to fish in 1 fters for a change. A few bigger fish caught, including 1 guy who said he had a 30 lber, didn't see it though. On a side note, the perch fishing is great out of Holland right now. Everyone we talked to had limits. Next time we're taking perch rods.

I have been using the Opti stealth snubbers and have had no problems. One thing that is bad about the L-J snubbers is that there is a shock cord in the middle that stops it after it stretches a certain distance. I really like the Opti's.

Thanks Mike! I will be out with Brek in the morning and this should help us get started.

I also switched to flouro leaders this year. I haven't fished enough to know if they work better yet but I'll find out next year on my new boat.
