I just got off the phone with Mike (redeagle) and they had a good day out of Pt. Sheldon today going 8/11 with some real nice kings. He said almost everything worked, just had to find the cold water. All fish between 90-150'. Sorry I don't have more details.

It is my understanding that you can fish it, just not target or have in your possession lake trout. The Wisconsin guys fish it during tournaments sometimes.

Well, we didn't really fish on sunday but we did catch a fish! Went out for a boat ride about noon and talked the wife into letting me set 2 rods. Went out to find that 48 degree water and found that it was out deeper, 130'+. As soon as I found it I set 2 riggers, 1 w/ a Mag Carmel Dolphin 55' down w/ a 75' lead, and the other w/ a silver/green J-Plug 70' down w/ a 100' lead as the sun was up bright. Turned the boat south and kicked back with a beverage. Wouldn't you know it after about 15 minutes the rigger with the Carmel Dolphin fired. Shelley took the rod and after a really good fight landed her first fish on the Sugar Mama and biggest fish ever, a nice 13 lb 12 oz king. Beautiful day on the water, we pulled lines and headed in shortly after to pack up and head home.

I fished out of Muskegon saturday with John (Prof) and his 2 boys. We had a good morning going 7/12 with 4 kings and 3 lakers. All of the kings were juveniles, we lost of couple of bigger fish but I won't say who lost them:) We were running a little late and didn't clear the pierheads until 6 am. Ran out to 85' and setup on a west/northwest troll. Set 2 riggers and the first one w/ a Northern King Purple Thunder fired. Levi brought it to the boat and we had our first fish in the box at 6:15. After that things were a little hectic. The Purple Thunder went 2 more times (I think). It was set 65' down. The other rigger went twice w/ a mag Green Sexy Shad. It was set 75' down. A wire diver out 200' w/ a Blue Bubble Spinny and Blue Mist Sigg's fly went. We had a flurry on the high divers out 75' and 100' with 3 hits. A fullcore went but I can't remember the spoon. Later on the riggers got going again with a Mag Lemon Ice on an SWR 100' down and a Mag Carmel Dolphin 55' down. All of our fish came in the strip of 48 degree surface temo water. Outside in 46 degree we didn't mark any fish and inside in the 50 degree water we weren't marking fish. Just kept working that 48 degree strip all morning. Gabe did a nice job fighting a few fish and also handling the net for his Dad's monster laker. John spent the majority of the morning driving while Levi helped run the back of the boat. Great job by everyone and I had a lot of fun. We even had a nice fish dinner back at the campground. Thanks a lot guys for coming along.

My friend used to use PVC rod holders on his boat. We always tied the rods down in case the holders broke. Good thing because one morning the holders snapped and are on the bottom of Lake Michigan in 60' of water out of Muskegon. Now he uses Tite Loks. There are guys who make rod trees on the side. Or any fab shop could do it. Mine were made by a friend and work great.

Well, we took the shakedown/maiden fishing trip in the Sugar Mama sunday and I sure am glad I wasn't in my old boat! I don't know if I would have made it out of the channel. We made our way out to 60 ft slightly south of the piers and headed on a northwest troll. Set 1 rigger 40' down w/ a Mag Warrior Gas Chamber and the other rigger 50' down w/ a Mag Green Sexy Shad Silver Streak. I later lowered this rigger to 60' when we hit 90' of water. Worked a braid dipsey into the spread out 125' on 3 w/ a Mag Super Screw Silver Streak and then a wire dipsey w/ a Blue Bubble Spinny and Blue Mist Sigg's Rig's fly. After the sun was up we added a full core w/ a Plumcrazy Michael Jackson (I renamed that spoon Phil) and a half core w/ a Warrior spoon I can't remember the name of. Action started early on the riggers. 1st fish on the Gas Chamber, then we went 3/4 on the Green Sexy Shad. We lost a fish on the Super Screw and landed one on the Spinny/Fly. Lost what felt like a nice fish in the fullcore later after we changed it to a Craig's Xmas. We (I) also lost a fish on the braid dipsey out 150' w/ a Mag Kevorkian due to some captain failure. Finished the day late to upgrade our weigh-in box by boxing a king on a half core w/ a Mag Double Orange Crush. Best troll ended up being northeast. We tried a few other things w/ no success. Ended up pulling a little early to run in and get organized for the weigh-in. Great first trip on the new boat and a good job by the crew to land fish in tough conditions. All of our fish were nice, healthy kings. 4 fish right around 13 lbs, one at 9 1/2 lbs, and the last around 6 lbs. Thanks for coming along Mike and Brent!

OK guys, sorry this is so late but I had a long couple of days. I would also like to thank Ken (nailer) for taking pictures. I hope to iron out a few glitches and make things run a little smoother in the future. He also talked to Outdoorsmen Proshop and they donated a $10 gift card for the event. It was very generous of Don and the 2 sponsors to support our league. I really appreciate the support of these 2 great businesses. Every member of the league received at least 2 Silver Streaks (or more) and the $10 gift card was added to the Big Fish winner. Doug, I know how you feel. A few years ago I was fishing out of Frankfort w/ my now wife and I lost 3 dipsey/flasher/fly setups due to the wire getting caught next to the rollers on my Eagle Claw roller rod or between the spool and frame of my Daiwa Great Lakes reel. Shortly after that trip I changed my wire setups to Daiwa Heartland Dipsey rods with a Twilli Tip. The rod was $30 and the Twilli Tip was $7. I also upgraded my reels to Daiwa Sealines. Since then I have had no problems and love catching fish on wire now. It will save you money to invest into a new combo, if you keep losing gear. Good luck.

Way to go guys! You've had a heck of a week!

As the other guys said, it is certainly doable, but I would think you would be more productive and comfortable fishing 3 guys with 9 rods. You could switch setups between riggers, dipsey's and planer rods. I fished with Jason (Satisfaction Guaranteed) last year and we fished 4 off his 17' (I think) Lund but one guy sat up front on a cooler. It was fine in calm conditions but could be hairy in 3+ footers. If your spread is setup properly you should be able to limit your tangle problems, just spread your holders as far apart as possible. Run your planer holders as far forward on the gunnels as you can. If you post some pictures there are plenty of guys who fish similar boats that would be able to help you with your setup. I plan on fishing 12 rods off my 22 ft Sportcraft.

Here are a few more pics of her rigged up. I've got 2 Big Jon Pro Tournament Riggers, 4 Bert's Ratcheting Rod Holders, and 2 3 rod trees. There is 5' of Bert's track on each gunnel. She's ready for fishing!
