Good job Kevin. -
Good job! There were goose hunters set up in the field across the road from my house this morning. They took at least 2. I was standing by the window when they shot and I saw a bird drop. They were a little close to the house, but I'm sure (hoping) they were shooting in the opposite direction.

Congrats to Captain Adam and his first mate Phil! Great season guys. Will look forward to seeing you on the water next year. -
First of all, thanks everyone for fishing. And thanks to our sponsors for the first event: The Outdoorsman Pro Shop in Jenison, Wolverine Tackle (Silver Streak Spoons), and Captain Don Alofs of Tangled Mess Charters in Holland. I had a great time running the league and appreciate the help and patience of everyone. I know I didn't do as good of a job as Rich did but I was glad we were able to have it. There will be a WMFL next year, I'm just not sure who will be running it. It might be a group effort. Hopefully we will know by the first of the year. Either way there will be a posting with all of the information. Thanks again, and see you next year. Nick 1st Place League Champs Just Hookin 450.02 pts 2. catfishhoge 384.12 3. nailer 323.11 4. Terrible Fishing In Ludinton
Paulywood replied to Boltman's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
The full moon probably played a part in the tough fishing. They were feeding all night and not real active when they normally are. It makes for tougher fishing. Check out Capt. Glen's site for info when you head to Ludington, he is very helpful: http://www.fish-ludington.com/fishingreport/index.htm -
Apparently my first post disappeared so here it is again: After a few last minute cancellations my dad ended being the only passenger I had for our trip yesterday morning. We weaved our way through the boats anchored in the channel and at each end and headed out to 75' straight out. Took our first hit on a rigger 45' down with a Double Glow Ace High plug while setting lines. Steelie in the box. Short while later a half core w/ a Yeck Fireball w/ earrings went, another steelie in the box. 2 hours later we took a rip on a wire diver on 3 150' out w/ a blue slick/crush glow Pro-Troll and Mirage Sigg's fly but it came unhooked. By this time we had worked southwest out to 175'. Kept going out to 225' with no action so turned in and went back to 100' with nothing going. Catfishhoge called on the radio and said they were doing good up by Duck Lake. 10 miles from where we were. It was 11 am already but we decided to pull and head up there. Started setting lines in 150' just north of the last set of nets. Surface temp was 58 degrees compared to 65 degrees down south. As I was setting the 6th line an SWR w/ a chrome/redheaded J-plug 55' down went off. Nice 9 lb steelie in the box. We started circling the nets heading east and we found water as cold as 52 degrees with a defined scum line. Trolled along that and the half core w/ the Yeck went again. Another steelie in the box. Short time later a 3 color w/ a Mag Jerry Lee went. Another steelie in the box. It was getting late so we started pulling lines and putting everything away. Pulled all of the fish out for a quick pic and was hosing down the deck when the last rod in the water, half core w/ Yeck, started peeling line. Grabbed it and saw a nice steelie cartwheeling behind the boat. After about 10 jumps the line went limp. No steelhead limit for us. Ended up 5/7, all steel. Biggest was 9 lbs, smallest was 4 1/2. All of them put on a show, coming up out of the water multiple times. Thanks Rick for the tip on coming north, it was well worth the gas.

Congrats Roger! Now the fun starts. I still owe you a trip, we'll have to work something out.

Good work Mike! -
We fished Ludington for the first time. It's a lot different than down south, that's for sure. We headed north out of the harbor sunday night and found a small temp break about 3 miles north in 50'. Decided to stop and work that area but no luck. Worked our way north and picked up our first fish on a wire diver and flasher/fly. Things were kind of slow as we worked our way north of the point. Ended up 2/4 as the sun went down to go up 3/5. Ace High plugs in Double Glow went twice on full cores. Silver Streak Green Sexy Shad went on a rigger. 2 fish around 15 lbs, one around 10. On our way in we marked a lot of fish coming off the bottom in 180' off the Bath House and decided to start there in the morning. Ran up there in the 3' waves and setup in 80' heading NW. It sure does get deep fast in that area. Worked almost to the Stick taking 1 fish on a wire diver blue glow/slick Pro-Troll Mirage Sigg's fly. Turned south into the waves and headed toward the harbor as we had nothing going. Found a batch of cold water (61 degrees) south of the Bath House and took a fish in it. Water warmed up so we turned around and headed back into the cold water. Took another fish then turned around back into the cold water. Kept making the loop until the cold water disappeared around 11 am. We decided to call it a day. Ended up 4/7. One small king around 5 lbs and the rest between 10-15 lbs. Double Glow Ace High's went again, green double crush/glow SD w/ a Moonshine fly took a big king on a wire diver. Went 1/2 on a 3" chrome redhead J-Plug on an SWR, the one we lost was a nice fish that cut off the plug behind the boat. Lost another nice fish on a Diehard Stinger on a high diver that tore out 300+' and I fought it back to 75' before it came off on the surface. All in all it was a great first trip to Ludington. We stayed at Starport Marina and Duke was a great host. Helped us get set up and even tied the boat up for us. Can't recommend them enough. We will definitely be back.

Good job Tom. We were heading to Novi on saturday afternoon when I saw your boat headed north in Lansing. I was looking for your report to see where you were headed. -
I have never heard of it happening but it sure does suck. Sorry to hear about it. I wouldn't buy another Okuma rod if I were you. And I normally stick up for Okuma products.

It sure is a different experience up there isn't it. My wife and I were up there a few years ago. We got pushed inside up by the point and before you know it we were in 30'. Headed down to the Herring Hole and we were closer to shore but in over 100' of water. And you can't beat the view. I don't think I'll get up there this year but I plan on it next year. -
We plan on being in Ludington sunday night and monday morning.

The Fish Hawk uses a transducer. I know people had problems with the old units but the new ones seem to be a big improvement. They are more expensive than the Moor or Depthraider.

We were up at Higgins Lake this weekend. Went to pull the boat out on sunday and there was a ton of pleasure boat traffic along the dropoff. I headed out deeper to run down to the boat launch so I would be out of the way. When I reached the launch I slowed down in order to pick my way through the traffic I had to cut across. A guy in a pontoon cut right in front of me. Probably about 15 ft in front of me. Then he waved to see if I was heading in:( I let him go. At the launch he said he couldn't tell if I was headed to the launch because I was going so slow. Maybe because of the 50 boats flying along the dropoff. He seemed to be insinuating that it was my fault. Oh well, I don't expect a whole lot on a sunday at a public launch.
